Hi all, need some feed back on Hepolite ring sets , 0.020" oversize for an 850 motor, bore is standard at this stage, anyone had experience with the compression rings working well, but experiencing problems with the oil rings after very little use?
Any feed back appreciated
Regards Mike

One piece solid oil ring, or those 2 thin rings and expander type ?

Also, old type hepolites, or these modern renamed versions...

Who installed them ?
The instructions for those expander ring type are very specific,
no overlapping permitted as I recall.

Someone here recently had problems with getting them installed as per the instructions ?

Rohan, not past tense, about to fit them , just getting feed back is all.
Seems the three piece item is better then the earlier one piece item, as had some feed back verbally since the post
Regards Mike

If they are 2014 made, then I can't comment.
That style in earlier Hepolite years were the best though.
Interested to hear what you go with.

I've been using the three piece oil control ring in a +.020" bored 850 for about 20,000 miles now with no issues and nill oil consumption. Piston clearance was set at .0045". The expander in this set had the very ends painted I believe pink on one end and green on the other. As it's quite easy to assemble this expander overlapped the painted ends were a tell-tale to assure they were not. When butted correctly the installer will see both colors. If you see just pink, or just brown, try again. Also my manual is quite specific for orientation of the oil control ring parts. " Position the scraper ring expander (gap) to the side of the piston body with the rail gap 1 in. to the left and right of the expander gap to prevent the rail ends spragging in the connecting rod clearance cutaways in the cylinders." -FACTORY WORKSHOP MANUAL for 850 COMMANDO. Thanks biscuit excellent feed back
Am going with these in the meantime as there is a future plan for a major rebuild next year
Regards Mike

Oh and in my last post I meant to say, "If you see just pink or just green, try again". Don't know why I said brown.
