Hello from Norton UK

If they only have to build two bikes to satisfy deposits, then it looks like they have dipped in. Get them out the way and tell us what new bike I can spend all my money saved during lockdown on.

It does look good in black. Too bad they don't plan to make any more of them.

Ken
My guess is that if they are successful in FIRMLY re-establishing Norton, they might bring back an ACTUAL "Limited Edition" batch eventually, but probably using a more standard OHC engine that only LOOKS slightly like a Commando. You can get a lot more out of a smaller OHC than a larger pushrod engine of the same capacity (but you already know that).

TVS has already stated that the Commando will return in some form at a later time.
What "some form" means is anyone's guess.
If they retain the Commando moniker as their modern classic line, then a new one will probably share aesthetic elements with the 961.
I doubt that TVS wants to deal with the foibles of the 961 lump in larger scale production.
They could take their current 650 twin , bore/stoke it to an 850, dress it up in classic 961 style, and viola - The new 850 Commando II.

Then put out non-PC ads in Maxim magazine with hot chicks in bikinis, sitting on new Commandos in suggestive positions.
The outcries in the press will provide tens of millions of dollars of free advertisement.
TVS stock goes through the roof.
The Commando will be back.

Have to ask.... Why based on the 961 ??? There was another.......

A good question, a regular Roadster, or any other style would be fine too.
We know that the cafe style of the 961 is popular, and should be an easy sell.
I just think the Commando moniker will be a way to get people into dealerships.
Serving as a type of loss leader with an eye toward selling other more expensive conventional models (650's, V4's) to the public.

Reported in the Times, Telegraph, Leicester paper etc. this week as well!
Well my ones limited to #1, just to brighten my corvid lockdown experience

Hearing people talk about future commandos is funny to me. Why you ask?
well, everyone talking about OHV and push rod motors, euro 5, 6, 7 etc.
by 2035 every thing will be electric and petro engines will be a thing of the past. The only major motorcycle brand that’s doing this is Harley Davidson, which to me is shocking because normally they are stuck in the 70s and refused to think ahead. I actually think the Harley live wire is a good looking bike that as the times go one will only get better. I’d actually buy a live wire now if I were ready for a EV motorcycle. But I’ll wait it out for now.

Read the TVS purchase agreement with Norton America, the 961 lump rights belong to the Chinese. A whole new 850 unit of TVS origin would be ideal.

Cant wait for Harley's to be all electric, the GODDAMN NOISE of all the muppets riding them with sawn off silencers, the world will be a quieter place.

My Norton shorties are sublime, noisy but not that barping ruckus of no silencer......

All motorcycles will be electric in the next 20 years.

Simon Thanks for joining and listening.. Please Please export theses new bikes to USA, I'll be the first in line. I have tried to fine someone in UK to ship one over for me!!!!

It's all way too premature any way as far as bikes coming to the US.
Norton will need to line up new US Dealers, or at least dealers who are willing to take a chance selling/servicing Nortons.
With the past experience of the SG run factory, I think dealers in the US will be very hesitant to signup.
Once bitten, twice shy.

What they don't tell you is when the battery begins to get "run down" and finally goes kaput, just how much a new battery is going to set you back, you better be sitting down when you hear the price!

Reactions: MAK
At one time I would cringe at the thought of buying an Indian based product! I now own 2 Royal Enfields. If TVA follows the Royal Enfield quality and customer service there is no reason not to buy. 3 year bumper to bumper road side assistance. US consumers are very loyal to their products. Just ask a Harley rider!! Over priced mediocre quality. $180 - $200 for a battery, but they love them. Norton owners may not agree with new style BUT I still want one!!!

Just out of curiosity, do you or have you owned a electric vehicle?
Because if you knew more you wouldn’t make this statement. In a Tesla, the battery has a warranty as follows.
show me a gasoline vehicle with a engine warranty better than this.
