I don't know that it's a Helicoil™. Mine is a external and internal threaded sleeve.

Can any one tell me who sells helicoils for exhaust repair?
Phil

Some years back there were some people installing helicoils to repair the exhaust. They were somewhat troublesome from what I have heard although I have not had one done myself. I was told they tended to unscrew with the exhaust nut when they were dissassembled. I do have one of the helicoil inserts in my toolbox somewhere but it would take a custom tap to install it. I don't know of anyone repairing them that way any more. Jim

Swoosh beat me to it. There is a good post one the forum somewhere, With Pictures!!!! which Swoosh loves.

And I didn't say "how do you fix stripped exhaust threads, make them put their cloths back on.".

Thanks Dave,
Phil,
If you would like to talk to me about it feel free to give me a cal. 719-646-2610 is the shop. I work alone so if I don't answer leave a message and I will call you back when my hands aren't full. Jim

Jim,
You did my head last March, those threads are holding strong.
I was just wondering how diblouph would repair his threads.

Mark, Thanks for straightening me out. I didn't look back far enough for the original poster.
So Phil, feel free to give me a call. Jim

Sarcastic answer, go to a taylor.

Straight answer. In the Bay Area, I would probably go to Fair Spares. If I would ship the head, the "C" man seems to be the fastest gun in the west right now.

Techernickerly , Helicoils ; youd need a rather large tap , then blunton it or another to a square end .Rather $ $ $ etc , Get it started dead square , so head held in a BIG Vice or Jig . . . . Then ,
Heat Proof Loctite on the helicoils putting them in .Then , after a day  Carefully Thread the oiled Gland Nuts in , and give them a Belt with a Large Mallet , to SEAT them . With the
Gland Nuts being turnable by a large and firm Hand . IF you got it right . :D

Therefore Large Overbore Pipes ( for a ' Coustom ' ) look attractive , held in M-X style with springs. To The Pocket .

Basic Cause stripping is not fitting the gland nuts with Anti Sieze , and failing to lean on the Nut Wrench repeatedly thru heat cycles as the copper sealing washer compresses (with all the heat cycles )
to 2 fiths of 5 eights of stuff all thickness . And the wobbles further aft . :?

Youd almost get away with loctited in gland nuts , and modifying the pipes to ' push in ' so the wobbles were a homogenous concept for the entire exhaust . :|

Therfore , Fitted threaded steel inserts ' have some attraction ' in regard to maintaining the standard components .Unless youre a Cowboy . :?

I read here somewhere that someone had a tap. Where can I get a tap to clean up mine?
I have welded inserts in mine but just the other day I kinda messed one of them up trying to remove the nut with a pipe wrench and crushed the nut.
Where can I get a tap?

I have a tap . I will warn you -getting a tap started straight in an aluminum insert can be very difficult but your welcome to try it for the price of shipping . Jim

I also have a tap. It is a bit tricky to get it started. But once you do it works a treat.

7811 maybe Ludyboy .

This isnt an elegant solution for a restoration, but for a hack , custom, or No Budget or near time expired head , has something to be said for it .Usually use springs from under a old car seat ( seat springs )
or wire wove mattress ( galvanised ). Advantage is quick fit for raceing .
