I talked with Heinz's wife Karen yesterday.

She told me that Heinz had four complete sets of his Commando swingarm ring sets pre made and waiting for any incoming orders.

These remaining four sets are the last of his work.

IF anyone here wants a set or knows of someone that does, now is the time to ask Karen for one. They come complete with Heinz's installation instructions.

They will go pretty fast, just a heads up.

Karen can be reached at heinz500gp@aol.com

I hate to ask this, but is there a way someone would be able to persuade Karen to let someone here, specifically a machinist/vendor, that could copy the collars so they can continue to benefit the commando owner?

Heinz certainly did not have a patent on his rings invention.

He had no problem of any kind with anyone else making them. He wanted only to benefit Commando owners.

In fact, I believe not long ago I saw on this forum a link to a person who copied Heinz's rings and was making and selling them.

Any one remember who this might be?

I have made and sold a couple dozen sets. If anyone needs some, pm me.

There are several sources including Windy here on the site.

I think the collars are available at McMasters too, but I don't know the size and they may have to be modified.

For the folks in Oz that want to manufacture their own the shaft collars are available from Blackwoods for ~$15. They only stock unplated versions though.
McMasters no longer ship to Aus, which is a great pity. If anyone in Oz knows of someone who stocks a reasonably priced nickel plated collar I'd like to hear about them.

Thanks everybody! You're the best!

For those who've been so kind to email me, I must say sorry I had my old email account on my profile so I haven't received your messages. Sorted now.

GRM 450: The swingarm spindle gets worn with the normal use and it makes the swinging arm move sideways wich is of course dangerous. This rings are suppossed to cure that.

Please, correct me if I'm not explaining it right or my words are not clear. I missed my English lessons more often than I should when I was at school

Thanks!!

Those are what I've installed on two Commando's, one on mine and one on friends.
They tend to rust up so think about clear coat or paint if not oiled enough by spindle drool.

Heinz made his rings of aluminum so no rusting.

He felt they were plenty strongly made to keep a slight forward pressure on the inside spindle with the bolts passing through.

Be careful to test fit with all the access and clearances checked before commuting to drilling holes.

Hi there, as I want to duplicate those , can someone give us the dimensions of the collars, i will do them in alloy (easy to find for me ....° if someone got the distance of the drilling holes, would be nice too.......many thanks, Pierre.

marinatlas, my lazy hay seed Commando buddy Wesly has an extra I could send you to model yours after. He only put one on as too much hassle to do the other one and one stabilized swing arm enough form the prior 3/8" slop to be ride-able if careful.
Seriously I'll ask em to bring it down the Mt. if you want. hobot

The collar dimensions are mentioned in one of the many spindle threads here on the forum. Let me know if you can't find it.
