Do you have access to the 750 - 850 factory manual? I had to make one for a 750 a few months ago. The dimensions of the headstock spacer is listed. Maybe some members can refer to this or advise an on-line version? I'm away on holiday at present and don't have any info with me. Good luck.

I didn't have one in my forks and I don't see one in the parts diagrams. I installed tapered roller bearings ( headstock-bearings-t2283.html ) the adjustment is a lot easier. Even with balls and races, the procedure is to loosen the fork tube clamping nuts, the fork head race adjuster nut and the crown and collumn lock nut, use a special wrench to tighten the first nut (the fork head race adjuster nut ), then tighten the others when all play has been eliminated while having a smooth movement

Get peace of mind, put in tapered rollers

But your headstock is the pre-'71 type, which originally had adjustable cup and cone bearings, so does not require a spacer.
The later non-adjustabe sealed ball bearing headstocks certainly do need the spacer to stop the bearings from being side loaded when the stem nut is tightened.
Personally I see no reason to change the later bearings for taper rollers, as the sealed ball bearings do not appear to cause any problems.
