i can't find the thread but i remember someone talking about a headlight swap. throwing out the lucas and replacing it w/ a complete unit out of buell or beemer... can't recall. while not exactly the same, it's better than not seeing at night i figure...

alternatively, has anyone swapped out the light itself but kept the housing/switch? daniel stern has some 'landing lights' quality lamps and i'm wondering about going that route as well

i don't want to be spastic and start 5 simultaneous threads so i'll continue here. it's still electrics ;)

my front disc brake conversion doesn't have a brake switch. have to hit the rear brake to light up the light and would like to change that. the only thing i found is the entire brembo unit that cnw offers that's a complete lever/reservoir/switch. anyone know if i can get just the switch or am i stuck getting the entire assembly?

thanks.

What about an H4 halogen conversion? Have you looked at that option?

thanks for the reply. i have looked into it i'm just not sure whether the electrical system can support it. i know that my ignition is upgraded and pretty healthy but if i'm still on the 6v system, can i run h4 w/o any problems?

1)
Replace the Lucas wax candle with an H4 reflector and Halogen bulb. Stan at Rocky Point Cycle sells one but it eliminates the pilot light. Old Britts carries a Wipac conversion that retains the pilot but at more than twice the price. I have picked up a couple (Autoroche?) at swap meets with the pilot light hole from time to time also. These fit directly into the stock Lucas headlight rim and bucket.

If you can find a Bosch or Hella 7inch H4 reflector, those will work also. Regardless you will need to convert to a standard automotive headlight socket. I also highly recommend adding relays to get all 12 volts to the bulb.

2)
For your brakelight problem, if you are using a metric master cylinder with a banjo type brake line, get a 10 mm banjo bolt with the brake switch built in. These are available from Dennis Kirk. Slick and easy way to solve the problem.

If your swap used the stock Norton M/C then why not use the stock switch?

I am unsure as my MkIII came with the halogen conversion already done. Mine does have the pilot light intact and an automobile style bulb in there as well.

I'm going to get one of those ultra white retna burners in there soon.

You can run an H4 halogen bulb with the standard single phase 120 watt alternator if you are not idling in traffic all day (like at Daytona Bike Week!). A conversion to a three phase alternator and electronic voltage regulator/regulator will handle anything you need.

Before converting to the three phase system but with the halogen light, I had to charge my battery overnight every 2-3 days during Bike Week. With the three phase, I have never had to charge it.

By the way, yours is a 12 volt system, not 6 volt.
