Not having seen the Taylor head steady mounted, I have a question. Is it the spring portion of the head steady that would interfere with the gas tank?

I think what you do is tighten the spring more or less to change the preload on it. Chuck.

My 71 commando did have trouble with the taylor headsteady touching both inner sides of the tank. The original unit also was so close it scratched the new paint off the tank. My tank is one of the steel roadster tanks being sold on ebay. Great tank but it may need to be clearance checked before you go to far with the painting. Stock tank may have cleared fine.
Too lazy to go back and check to see if I said this already, but at risk of repetition, I have an Old Britts and like it a lot. Have heard great stuff about the Taylors as well - and from what I can see, they approach the problem pretty similarly. I've had great dealings with Fred and Ella at Old Britts - that was the deciding factor for me.

+1 On that Brian, I have also had very good good results with my head steady from Old Britts and they are GREAT to deal with. Chuck. 
Hi guys has anyone got any pics for an alternative cylinder head spring tension mounting,I'm running a dual output coil and I believe it will be in the way of the standard affair. I made a rod end type head steady & at 2500 &5000 the foot pegs feel more buzzy.I used the original rubber mount holes for the frame bracket& could adapt a mount off that but some more ideas would never go amiss.

The dual coil should fit, what type are you using?
The buzzing could be caused by the rod, it may be incorrectly set and loaded up. You need to set it up with the bike off it's stand, you onboard and the rod bearings should rock freely.
Never saw the spring thing any where else, it does work very well where it's at. To try it in another position you might find it's a bugger to set up. Anyway, I reckon it's a bit of black magic and should be left where it is :roll: .
