When you reinstall the bottom end and fixed it to the frame that has already assembled the head or the head mounted after when the engine is in the frame?.
Tanks.
Ciao.
Piero

If you are assembling the frame to the engine I would have the engine COMPLETE. Assembly of the head to the engine is more difficult with the engine in the frame. If you have a choice complete the engine build and install in one piece.

Well,
Complete engine, but with carburators or after?
Ciao.
Piero

The carbs will just get in the way. I would install the head, set the motor in the frame, put the gearbox into the cradle, bolt the cradle up to the motor, then install isolastics. But that is just me. Most assembly processes have at last one advantage and one drawback. I can't say I have ever built much of anything that didn't have to come apart at some point because I overlooked something obvious. Go for it. The worst case is you get to do it over!

As long as it isn't inside the case, the process is usually not that painful.

I only know 750's and find whole engine mounted in cradle as handle to just slip in the 2 iso bolts rather that fiddle engine down into the mounted cradle. I've done it a number of times single handed but rather better with a buddy. On non perfect frame fits I've spread front tube by wood block banged in but it only helps a .001" or so as hard to spread tabs by any method. Think ahead of what can be pain nicked and don't expect just a couple layers of tape matter if an edge contacts paint in handling. A good many say to lay frame on side to do this but never made sense to me.

Piero, If the gearbox is also out of the frame, I suggest you put it in first. It is quite difficult to fit the gearbox after the engine is already in the frame.

Get help to put the complete engine in the frame. It's pretty hard to do by yourself.

Dave

I've found only the Combat rear breather to interfere with easy gb slip in out with engine in place. If a standard Combat then yes must put gb in 1st or have to tip engine forward to clear the breather baffle. I've done this 3 ways, A. install with just caddle and bottom cases/crank rods, then put on barrel and pistons and head, B. with pistons and barrels, C. with head on. C. was easiest but heavier to handle single handled. After first warm up and oil change, definitely go over the case bolts retorque as well as barrel and head fasteners and check case cradle bolts now and then over next 1000 miles.
