I finally got around to pulling the head off of my bike to send to Jim Comstock for exhaust thread repairs.
While shooting pics for reference, I took these shots of some markings stamped on the underside.
Head Markings ????

Head Markings ????

Anyone know what they mean?
Production markings?
It's not really important, I was just curious.
(RH4 , Mk3 850)

The mark I would be concerned about is the one that shows the head gasket has been leaking at the pushrod tunnel. The head will need to be surfaced as it will be low there. Jim

A Shadow? Here's a little wider shot.

We'll address any other issues that you may find once you have received it and had a chance to look it over.

here is some info on head markings and Identification from Atlantic green http://atlanticgreen.com/nhth.htm
No help on that site answering the question, although I did see one head with an "A" marked into it.

Maybe they just had some guy at the factory whos job it was to stamp random letters into their castings?
Seriously, They had to have ment something to someone at sometime - otherwise, why do it?

There are two other threads about this already with no answer including one I made as my head is stamped with a T, someone else had something else. Maybe it is a batch identifier or an operator qc mark. Whatever the case, it would be nice to find out for sure.

Several years ago I was working on my head from my '74 and noticed "KC" was stamped on it! After scratching my (human) head for a bit, I called one of our esteemed vendors who had done some work on it in years past, and he confirmed it was his doing; making sure it didn't get mixed up with all the other heads in his shop. Since he was cleaning and blasting my head, stamping it was a sure way the identifying mark remained.
