Hi,

I finally got the head off again yesterdday and here is a picture of the blown gasket
Head gasket blown

It is possible that I mangeled the gasket while trying to fit the head as there is a lot to watch when lining up the pushrods and studs with only two hands.

Lets us see if it will sucedd this time.

Regards,
Sean

Probably already been covered but I found that one of the combustion chambers was slightly of centre? Perhaps a naff casting or bad machining who knows. Anyway, it meant that the head gasket was too much into the combustion chamber on one side and would of been burnt up. I had to open up the stud holes in the gasket and glue it in the right position to insure the ring was properly compressed. Also found a load of crud in the the barrel bolt holes which I removed with a tap before refitting.

For what it's worth you can get a torque wrench onto the front three recessed bolts by putting a long box spanner onto them and using a socket on the top of that.

This is how I torque those three bolts.

I appreciate the picture, but what are the two parts, and where is the source of these parts?

I'm interested in the answer also.

The long bit ( with FALCOM stamped on it) is what's known as a box spanner where I come from. It's 13mm on the business end (which is close enough to fit) and is long and slender enough to get down to the three nuts in the front of the head.
The other bit is a half inch square drive socket which fits onto my torque wrench.

I bought them from a decent tool shop in England many many years ago.

The stock gasket has on one side of some letters written.
This part must be on against the head or under the base of the cylinder.
Or is it indifferent?
Ciao.

Who's head gasket are you using Piero?
My Andover Norton gasket made it pretty clear which way it should go (it says 'TOP' on the top):

Can't say how good it is though... It isn't running yet...!
