Have the problems with Tri_Sparks been fixed?

It's been a while since the issues of softening potting material and heat susceptibility came up. Did they ever fix those problems? Did they just involve one bad batch?

Haven't heard of a problem in some time. I've had a Tri-Spark ignition on my Norton for probably four months and thousands of miles that was a warranty return from the US. I have had no issues at all with this ignition. I think the returner had other problems. Steve hasn't sent me any more for testing so.......I guess that means, no, there are no problems.

I believe they had a quality control issue with the epoxy which has been resolved.

Are they now mounting the control electronics outside the points cavity?

I certainly hope not. That's the beauty of it, frankly. The fact that it works perfectly is just a bonus.

Could someone point me to one post where Carbonfibber has provided any positive input or help to the rest of us? I'm crabby at times every day, but jeez.

Sorry, none exist, try looking for hens teeth or a bucket of prop wash, you will have better luck

Seems there's a lot of grouchiness on the forum at the moment. I guess a lot of Nortons won't start. Or, a lot of wife’s of Norton owners won't.

sorry, removed my own post so as not to be a personal attack... I hate it when threads get hijacked....
so let's just keep it about the Tri-Spark

I agree jeffdavison. If we don't settle down, L.A.B. is going to send someone to bed early tonight (alone) with no TV.

I had a coil driver circuit failure on one back in sept. and IIRC there were several others with this same failure.

I bought one of the early units, it failed after racking up about 1200 miles. Sent it back, Steve sent a replacement by return post. It went back into the bike in spring of 2010, and hasn't missed a beat in 6,000 miles. YMMV.

Too much rain and cold and soon, snow. No one is happy except when the bikes are being ridden.

Couldn't have said it better myself.

I am currently pursuing a glitch in my T150V Tri-Spark~

It starts and runs fine , but only a couple of times I enter a suburban / street corner or just low revs/ speed corner ~ as in a give way sign and usually in second gear, I then as I begin to throttle up and into 3rd gear and the ignition system shuts down!!!

I stop ~ the trafficators are working ~

I pop the seat and I cannot see the red LED light in the Tri-Spark ! ( I cut a small notch to allow me to see this lamp. I have been assured that "Steve K" is actually planning making this led light visible on the unit . )

I then find it is on and so I crank up and all is fine ~

I am still experimenting before I contact Steve direct - as we are not strangers ! (??)

Stuart, I had totally random cutting out issues with my T160 Trispark, sometimes doing 40+ miles before the fault recurred.

I made two alterations recommended by Steve Kelly, and don't know which of the two alterations cured my problem, as I did them both at the same time. I put resistor plugs on and moved the remote black box away from the coils, rearwards a few inches. No more problems.

I have had a problem with my Norton Trispark this year. I had intermitant total failure of the ignition system and also momentarily cutting out. I sent it back to Steve who replaced it with a new one with a modest financial contribution from myself. Steve did say that on his tester that no fault could be identified, but that intermitant faults are difficult to find.

The new one sorted the problem and I am very pleased with it and the aftermarket service supplied by Steve.

Had two units fail on me at 1500/2000 mile mark. Steve replaced each time and after testing stated it was the resistors. Present unit is 2200 miles old and find myself riding with breathless anticipation and roadside recovery!!!. Otherwise a fine piece of electrical engineering.

Thanks for the feed back blokes.

The module and the coils are way apart on mine ~ I actually shifted the module and mounted it on the seat base which I saw some where else .

I have non resisted spark plugs ~ do have some resisted plugs but cannot say emphatically whether the problem started before or after I fitted the standard BE8's ! I will try that ~

When I get the Trident clutch fixed I will (obviously ) do some more testing ~

I even went as far as dismantling the kill switch and fitting a relay to the kill switch circuit ` Which of course if there is an erratic open circuit, would nto be over come by a relay . Then if it was an erratic open circuit , the problem would not just occur at low revs / second gear !

Thanks ~

SS
