Hands Free....

I thought there was already a lot of hands free driving going on, phones in one hand, sandwich in the other, doing makeup, texting, on Facebook etc.etc.

In my home state of Queensland the Gov has just past distraction laws while driving and now doing all the above brings in big fines if caught, phone in your hand or on any part of your body brings a $1085 fine and 4 points and similar things like eating food, picking your nose etc also brings in big fines, they even have fixed and mobile cameras to get you doing these things so you won't know you been caught till you get your pic in the post.
Even with the big fines people are still holding on their phones, it's so easy to set up hand free kits yet people still hold them, then deny it when caught.

To clarify, the linked article is not about old school distracted driving and in fact about fully self driving vehicles that when they have something they cannot deal with, the poor human is supposed to suddenly take over. This will and has failed to prevent serious crashes/death many times already. Predictably. What it seems to be very successful at is alleviating the makers of these vehicles from liability, as the human still takes full responsibility legally. Kind of a win win for the corporate officers and major share holders. Rest of us, no so much....

I enjoy hands on driving I wouldn't trust anything that took control on my driving or anything for that matter, I enjoy using my brain and hands, I think humans are getting lazy, no matter what I will never own a new car that can drive itself.
