handlebar vibes?

Pump the bars full of silicone. There is no turning back once that is done but it would yeild the same results as a bar snake.

I was thinking about it, but once you go that way there's no going back

other solutions is to find the biggest lead balls from 12 cartridge and fill you handlebar with it...use to do this 20 years ago and it really absorb vibrations. I use half a cork on each side to plug the handlebar. I used the snake thing once on a big Vtwin made in the US...a pain to install, no way to take it out and no dampning of vibes whatsoever!

Ain't that what bar end weights are for on modern bikes, to stop vibes?

reduces handlebar vibes, useful or waste of money?

Are your isolastics adjusted correctly? Sounds like they may be too tight if you are getting vibes through the bars.

Swooshdave.

"I thought Commandos didn't shake..."

Only if you get them to run.

True. I have cheap drag bars so I'm gonna pump them full of more silicone than a waitress at Hooters.

Have given this some thought too, bars filled up with Sikaseal and plugged with a round lead fishing line sinker could help. Sikaseal is a silicone type sealant/glue but only a far better quality/dearer. Modern day car front ends are stuck on with it. Silicone would have to be one of the greatest inventions, ya can fix guttering to making Hooters bigger!

Let's get off the subject of Hooters and silicone and ask this question, why is it vibrating so much and at what rpms?

Ya can also coat a couple rolls of pennies with silicone and glue one in each side of the handlebars....

I've got a little note taped to my tool cabinet -

" Vibration up to 3000 RPM - Rear tight, Front OK
Vibration 3000-5000 RPM - Front tight, Rear OK
Vibration up to 5000 RPM - Both tight"

Seems to work for me

I'm sure your way ahead of me on this but thought I would mention to check the condition of the headsdeady. I stripped mine to repaint it while doing some cleaning up a while back & found it was severly cracked, as are many. I replaced it with one of the new CNW headsteadies the J. Comstock makes & love the thing. It seems to me I get less vibration at all RPM, even at idle except after it is fully up to running temp & sitting at idle. Then It shakes at around 1,500 but is very smooth at all other RPM & handles very presise now. I have had to rethink my cornering at speed but think it is a great improvment. Just a thought. BTW, the cracks in my stock one were NOT visable until I stripped the paint and they were very bad.

I put around 3/4lb of lead in the ends of my bars and it did pretty much what you'd expect. Vibes are way down and the mirrors are more clear. It's a stone axe approach and I'd hate to see what would happen if I ever found the natural frequency of this setup. If they ever started to sing, or resonate, I'd be in trouble. I pressed a penny in one end and dumped in buckshot. Then I added around a cup of epoxy and let it set. Then I did the other side and tipped it so it all wound on the other side. A perfectly splendid overkill method would be to get some bar stock that has a certain amount of room in there and machine grooves for o-rings that would keep the bar isolated and press it in. With a threaded hole on the end just in case it isn't as splendid as it could be.
BTW, has anyone found a bar style that's about half way between the stock American issue bars and the UK style. The low bars I have were great with rearsets but I'm using stock pegs now and it isn't that comfortable.

If you are concerned about doing something permanent, you can fill the handlebar with BBs and plug the ends.

Hmm, european bars, pt. no. 06-5748. Well, that is what is stamped on mine, but doesn't seem to be in the parts book. Nice for me anyway.

lots of good advice... I was just asking hypothetically to induce discussion
