Hi,

Can anyone tell me whether there was a 'standard' handlebar style that came new from the factory on Commando's? Have researched a bit online but it seems that different markets might have had different 'bars.

The 'bars on the bike at present are quite high as the previous owner had a bad back and wanted to sit very upright.

Want to take my bike back to standard as possible - if there is such a thing! Seems there are quite a few options out there to buy.

cheers

Thanks for that. I have a workshop manual for the bike but will check out the link as well. One diagram in the manual appears to show what I think is the higher 'western' style (06-1046?) bar and the other a flatter one which I think may be the UK (06-4132?).

Thats a fantastic ad poster - I'm impressed you had that at your fingertips!! Shows all the options too!
Perhaps there was no 'one' style rather a matter of personal choice.
Will check the andover sites too!! Thanks so much!

If I were younger, I'd go to the 'home' bar. I think it looks better than the 'export' bar.

Yep agree with you on that, looks wise. Going to pick one up today on the way to work. Hopefully put it on over the weekend. Put it up against a semi western style that was on a NC at the shop and it looked good without being too much lower for me. I have longish arms so hopefully it will be good.

The semi western looks good too though, but reminds me more of a Triumph 'look'. Not that there is anything wrong with that but just as a description.

I eventually ended up with the original U.S. (export, semi-western, etc.) bars on both my MK3s. I went from clip-ons in my younger days, to "euro" bars later, and now to the export bars. I too like the look with the "euro" bars better, but the bike is much more comfortable for me in my old age wiith the originals.

Kenn , I'm 59 now so may go this way very soon . Have 2 pairs of Western bars up in storage loft for this thinking.

Hmmm. Are we going to have to change the forum name to "oldgeezersnorton.com"? :P
