I have a stainless steel braided brake hose kit, bought some time ago from British Cycle.
It is adjustable in length and uses compression fittings, as per this website:

The hose does not have a vinyl cover, which means the braid can chew away at paint, plating, etc.
Has anybody run this hose through a close fitting vinyl hose before attaching the ends??
 
If you have free hose onto which you can slide covering I would find the best non-yellowing clear vinyl unless you would prefer a heat shrink solution in black? Otherwise as L.A.B. has noted which is what I do when the hose is already trapped between fittings.
 
Spiral wrap is great . So is split tubing down the center . Or fuel hose slit down lengthwise . I use all 3 , to avoid any chance of rubbings .
 
I have 'sleeved' stainless braided hose with rubber oil / petrol pipe in places where it may rub. Need to wrap the end of the braided hose with a turn of electrical insulating tape to contain any 'whiskers' that may stick inside the rubber hose, and smear some red rubber grease to lubricate its assembly.

Stainless braid is quite soft, and will wear away exposing the nylon (?) inner hose if it rubs on anything, I think of the sleeving to protect the braided hose as much as the part it may be rubbing on.

Heatshrink is available with an adhesive lining, very good stuff. Available from RS or CPC (in the UK).

I purchased my hose components from Venhill Engineering, where a protection sleeve is available to slip over the hose before the end are fitted... and as Les indicates just split open a section of 5 or 6mm poly pipe to wrap around the area of concern
