Thought you guys might get a chuckle outta this one. My dog Buddy started riding inside my jacket when he was about 10 weeks old, He absolutely loved it (in case you couldn't tell from the picture!). When I would ask him if he was "ready to ride", he would go get his goggles. After a few years, if he saw me getting my helmet or taking the bike out of the garage, he would be standing there with his goggles. He rode thousands of miles and across country once in his lifetime. Someone once asked "Who drives that thing?" I replied "Depends on who's sober!" He never did master the suicide clutch and jockey shift though. And for those going "Hey it's got a clutch lever." follow the cable to the front brake.

For a short while I had a KZ1000 full dressed. I would slide to the back of the seat and lock the throttle. With Buddy sitting upright and paws against the mirror stalks, you would swear Buddy was driving the bike. I've caused people to run off the road, run over curbs and chase me down! He was an awesome companion and an excellent rider. I had to put him down in 1988 and I buried his goggles with him.

Thanks Dave,
That picture was take a short time after I was discharged from the military and I um, ah...I let myself go as they say. Coming from the jungle to civilization doesn't make you civilized in my experience!

FYI there's a big ding (I had to sell that bike as it kept getting drunk and falling over.) in the RH fuel tank so you can't see it, but that's a grossly obese (or plump if you prefer) naked redhead stretched out on her tummy with a rose in her mouth. And of course that's another "rockingchair" story too. But I won't hijack my own thread!

This was a friend's female shepard "Skinny" who rode in that box (It's the same stock '60 panhead that's blue/white in some of my other traveling pics) and Buddy rode on the tank. We caused mayhem at intersections and in parking lots. You would think people had never seen a dog ride a motorcycle...certainly seemed normal to four of us.

God I miss my last dog Annie. Lived 16 years and was the love of my life in many ways. Dogs are the best traveling companions, I had a one as a kid that saw half the U.S. & Canada with me, named her Piute after the mountain range we had been in. Her father was saved from being dinner for the Indians in Nevada in 1967 when my sister was touring with Carlos Santana & being Hippies the cops pulled them over. The dog came from the camp to my Sis & would not leave her side. She kept him & 40 years later we still have his off spring! I swear thease dogs are Smarter & sweeter, telepathic and man & womans best pals!

Mike,

That first picture took me straight back to the 70's. What a very cool picture. I can hear the Stone's "Satisfaction" in my head just looking at it. R.I.P. Buddy.

I'm glad to hear that. A trip down memory lane brings it's own satisfaction doesn't it!

me too! brought back some good memories, one of the few Harleys I've ridden was similar w/ jockey clutch and suicide shifter, rode it back in that era....and a truly great MC photo, thanks....

Yep good stuff Mike. The dogs certainly love it don't they.
Used to have four Sheep dogs where I worked as a kid, Kwaka 100, Ag bike with a piece of plywood on the
parcel carrier behind the seat. When they heard the bike start up, they would all run too get a seat and I'd end up with
one on the tank, two on the carrier and number four trying to jump up and stay on where ever she could.
If we were going to one of the further paddocks, by the time I got there I'd be covered in saliva.
Great memories. Those dogs worked their guts out you know and never complained.
Actually one did, Jenny, when she'd had enough she'd go and jump up in the Ute (truck), or if it wasn't there, she'd go home.
Nothing to be 15 miles from home, she'd take the cross country route and be there when we got back.
That photo looks a though Peter Fonda and Jack Nicholson might be close by.
AC.

Can't believe I bought a motorcycle from this guy!
