Well that's what it says!

December issue of 'The Classic MotorCycle' (out now in UK at least) has an article about fabulous looking blue Commando (ahem). Article sprinkled with plaudits for Jim Comstock, Jim Schmitd, cNw, and others so worth a read for Commando anoraks.

Go faster Commando ...!

Am sure I've seen that bike before somewhere?
Maybe someone who is on this forum owns it?

Nige

If that bike had a decent size tank & a duel seat for your daughters it would be the ideal bike for you. :D :P :P

Yes, I know what the rider is thinking.............better start looking for a petrol station. Cool looking bike Nigel.

I shall have to buy a copy of that then! :)

Looks like your quite a recent joiner Paddy. Depending on your anorak rating, you might like to read through this thread where I wrote occasional posts during the build: engine-build-prep-t18461.html

Thanks for the link - I think I read quite a bit of it before my membership was accepted on here, but will go back for another look all the same!

As for being a recent joiner - you're quite right, I only joined Access Norton recently, however, in many ways I'm really a recent 'rejoiner' (depending on whether you mean Norton ownership or belonging to this excellent site) - I first signed up to the NOC in about 1979, and my Commando hillclimber was featured in Bike magazine in mid-1981, entitled 'Norton Climber From The Attic'. Since then my membership expired (about 30 years ago) and I've been full circle - due to missing the thrill of Commando ownership, however, I currently have a couple of Commando projects on the go, one of which is to build a hot rod in the style of my original bike. The difference being that now I have a lot of fancy parts in the garage - such as some ultra-trick forks with magnesium sliders and yokes (I used to be a factory Suzuki GP engineer). Here's an example of my work - my most recent sprint-hillclimb racer: http://www.foxonic.com/harley

Her indoors picked up the mag for me.
Nigel's bike looks fab in the article, I just wonder why the writer included so much about Z1s and CB750s and other boring bikes when all I wanted to read about was the Norton.
Good pullout poster of Peter Williams on a JPN.

Toppy, you are right there!

Well Chris, that was my thinking until I saw the new Bonnie's! I'm now thinking that if I had one of them for two-up work, the Commando could stay as a roartin' snortin' cafe racer!

Martyn, you are dead right there... fuel tank contents never far from the mind of a roadster rider! And I don't think mine is particularly frugal. But there's a problem with mine, the throttle often seems to be wide open

Sam, I agree, I thought the Japanese bike history lesson would have been ok and relevant, if it was about 1/4 the length. He then actually cut a lot of stuff I told him about the bike, ie details of cNw bits etc which I thought would be very interesting to Commando owners who aren't on this forum and not so aware of some of the great stuff that is available 'out there'. And, as seems to be the norm with classic mags, his write up on the actual 'road test' part was way too short, and that's despite me giving him a total free reign and explicitly instructing him to rev the damned thing properly!

Keith, yes indeed, there seems to be a few of us in meet-upable-distance. We really ought to pull our fingers out and do so didn't we? We are (supposedly) motorcyclists after all, so a bit of a ride out shouldn't exactly be an obstacle to us should it? So long as there's plenty of petrol stations en route for the roadster riders...!

I can go 150 + on mine (2.6 imperial g's)! but that does sometimes result in me running out  The Oxford NOC guys and British bike club do a couple of get togethers. Met some new faces at Andover's open day last Sat and was surprised to meet Commando owners not so far from me. Thing is they mostly have other bikes which are ridden more often. There's always the cafe do in September. You should be up for 'best of' there....
