I suggest a Commando motor is fast enough for road racing without much modification. As standard, the crank balance factor is too low, and the carburetors limit its tuning, especially when petrol is the fuel. The standard gearbox is useless. To efficiently use that level of torque , higher overall gearing combined with close ratios - preferably 6 gears, are needed. For classic racing, an engine management system and fuel injection would need to be hidden, unless the regulations permit the use of methanol.
