Horses are different from motorcycles, they love you. A motorcycle will jump all over you without caring. Horses look where they are going and avoid obstacles. If you cannot hang on, that is YOUR problem.

i 'done seen' horses in action at a civil war reenactment i was taking part in in eastern NC in deep pine woods several years ago two cavalry horses suddenly went berserk and one reared up and fell over backwards and crushed the rider in front of my very eyes and the other one ran mad through the crowd of spectators knocking folks aside later a local told me the woods had a number of black bears and the horses prolly smelled them when they get to going , 1000+lbs is hard to stop

1 horse power is a lot of horse power sitting on a saddle. My wife gets along with horses. She makes me look bad. They can sense fear. Both women and horses can.

I just googled "horse riding more dangerous than riding a motorcycle" and horse riding is 20 times more dangerous !!!!!
Yep, one year, a few years ago, no motorcycle riders were killed on the race circuit , but several horse riders were.
When you fall off a bike at speed you fall of and with full race leathers, rub and bump your speed off, whereas on a horseback you have a lot further to fall, and that can hurt!!

my latest ride....
Giving up.
Can I borrow you and your rotavator , I'm thinking of growing some strawberries and rhubarb this year..!

My wife rides horses, we have five (I say we because I pay and do 1/4 of the work) and she says riding motorcycle is easier. Horses have their own brain and bikes don't. I just smile and nod.

Stone me horses can think - who knew it????

which sort of ties in with the thread drift towards horses, and the old joke about what do you put on your rhubarb?

I have only been on a donkey once and it did not end well. The saddle slipped underneath and I was hanging on upside down while it ran off in the mud. I finally let go and it kicked me. Was pretty serious. Also had a bad experience in Cairo when a camel ran away into the desert with me on it and coincidentally I had the hangover from hell that day. No fun, I think I have a photo of me on that camel, must find it.

I stick to vehicles with engines only...

bernhard... the tiller was a derelict that followed me home like most of my machines i went over it from top to bottom new electronic ign. new belt, rebuilt carb, etc etc runs like new i am planting a victory garden as an experiment know nothing about raising a crop but it's fun learning something new mmmmmmm just like when i started my commando project about 3 years ago i had never even seen but one living norton in the flesh but wanted to learn something new....got...am still..getting... an education!

So sad to hear another long term rider has to give up riding due to health problems due to age and even worst one who has given so much time to our beloved Norton's, but of course its when you know its time to stop and I wish you well, you have made many friends world wide to make their Norton's even better and its sad you have decided to sell your beloved bike, so I wish you well in what ever you do and hope some time you be able to jump on a bike but if you don't I am sure you have all them memories of all the great rides you been on with yourself and also all your mates and one day I hopefully will get over your way and be great to meet up for a cuppa and chat, good luck mate and all the best.

Seriously I would go and see a doctor however. And get a bit of exercise.

I retired last year (I'm 67) and when I get out in my shed and garden for a week or two my balance and whole body feels much better. And when I get away with a couple of mates for a weeks adventure riding I feel much better on my bike.

My concession to old age on my Commando was to instal a CNW starter, clutch and front brake. I hope to get another 10 years out of it at least.
