After learning that the BF02 kit has the correct bolt pattern for our 961 fuel filler, I set out to find a way to deal with the filler being recessed into the top of the tank. I ended up buying THREE of the BF02 adapter kits in order to obtain two extra GL1799 parts (see parts picture #1). These were not available separately from Givi. These GL1799 parts provided a stable way to lift the mounting ring high enough so that the bag snaps on properly and does not abrade the paint. I ground the bottom side of the lowest ring so that it would not dig into the surface of the top of the tank. The second ring serves to lift the plastic (nylon?) ring out of the recess. Please note that the plastic latch ring is supplied with whatever bag you choose. I was able to find 25mm M5 screws, but had to shorten a couple of 50mm screws. Before cutting them, I threaded on a M5 (80 pitch) die which served to "chase" the threads after cutting and smoothing the end of the screw. That may have been excess caution, but I didn't want to damage threads in the filler assembly. Because I moved the bag back on its mounting, I cut away a small portion of the base of the bag to ease access to the release lever. There are probably other ways to mount a tank bag on a 961, but I believe that this will work for me. Contact me if you have comments or questions. Hope to see many of you in California for the INOA rally!
I took ten pictures of the proceedure, but the last five will need to go in "Part B" to this post.
