Dear Forum members,

I am hoping to find some information on Girling (?) shocks from someone more knowledgable on the subject than I.

I have two sets of girling shocks, one set off of a 1958 Norton and one set I took off of a 1955 Triumph. I do NOT know if either set is original to either bike!

It is interesting to note that on the one set, the top will screw off the shock body. I have never seen this before on a Girling shock (so maybe not a Girling?). Also, on that set the "eye" on each end is larger than the other shock. Also the eyes on those shocks are formed in a concave manner and the eyes on the other shocks are flat across the perimeter. I am submitting pics below.

Thanks!

Can you read any numbers stamped into the bodies ?
Also quote the fully extended lengths... ?

The shocks are 12.9 inches extended.

I will have to look again but the numbers I found on the shocks didn't match up with anything in my Girling catalogues.

Thanks!

Rick

Re; “It is interesting to note that on the one set, the top will screw off the shock body.”

This is a race spec. Girling, normally they came in matched pairs, and are rebuildable.
I had a pair of these on my 750 Atlas. HTH
