My hobby, or passion if you will, is restoring, riding , and otherwise enjoying vintage motorcycles. A few years ago I bought a '73 Commando that had sat in a garage since 1979. Still had '79 plates on it. It is original except for the exhaust, someone had put on a 2-into-1 on it and removed the centerstand. I have a centerstand for it now and just received a complete exhaust system from Commando Specialties. The only major mod I am doing is a single Mikuni conversion, which I have on my '66 Atlas , that works really well.
I am probably going to be posting more here during the next weeks, as I am sure I will need some advise.
I am putting a NOS Fiberglas tank on it, as the original tanks bottom is pretty much rusted out. I will seal it first , and will use methanol free gas (we have a couple of stations here that still sell the real stuff).
Since it has good compression, I am not going into the engine unless I have to.
So, the 1971 Sportster project is coming off the lift in the next few days to be replaced by the Commando, wish me luck!
