My bike had been in storage for 20 years and I have been working to get it going. I had it almost ready when I read on here about the layshaft bearing time-bomb.
I have just put my gearbox back together, started it up this morning, and went for a brief ride. Gearbox is fine, good as ever. I've got roughness in carbs and ignition, but I'll sort that out. I also am working to sleeve my front mc. Parts are made, got to install and check out.
Thanks so much to LAB and the others who answered my questions as I went thru the gearbox. I couldn't have done it without you.

Good work. Patience, a good manual and for the stuff that is just not documented, this site will get you through. I was in the exact same place as you over the winter. Headwork, Layshaft bearing and other necessaries taken care of. Running like a champ now.

A nod to your will power and efforts on Cdo recoveries jaydee and drone. Commando are like occult mystery school, what's in print ain't always correct and there's a whole lot left out of print that only a teacher-student or master-disciple man to man passing of secrets can make the spells stick. Only took me 5-6 yr the first time around to begin to give any advice rather than begging for hand holding.
Can ya imagine another vintage model that may end up being more populous than they ever were in their hey day, considering the low mileage and decades of setting up that usually attention the new birth announcements. Six years because my 5 yr first runing didn't last too long with too many errors to re-do, with more H&H...
