G15CS

We are actually making progress today on our title issue. DMV wants to see an engine in it (doesn't matter if it is matching). We plan to bolt one of our spare engines in it and try again. If it takes a lot more effort than this we may take grandpaul's advice and sell as is.

Grandpaul,
Could he get a title from Vt by mail? Aren't you familiar with doing business with Vt. DMV or am I thinking of someone else?
I'm especially interested since I have a 1967 G15CS frame (no title) into which I will be installing a non-matching engine and will probably run into title problems.

VT will issue a title for ANY bike with a legible VIN number and a legal Bill of Sale.

I've been wondering about the Bill of Sale, what if the seller never had any paperwork in his name? If it doesn't matter, it seems anyone could write one up, whether or not they sold you the bike....

I've never had to sink that low. If you have to do THAT, I don't like what you're doing. It looks bad on all of us.

If the guy sold it to you, he SHOULD have given you a legitimate Bill of Sale with his personal information and the motorcycle's actual information as verified on the bike you bought.

If you didn't, or can't get a Bill of Sale, I don't know what to tell you...

I have his contact details and will get BOS. I am not doing anything sneaky. I just was wondering what if he never had it in his name in a DMV system? Seems that probably happens more with the desert bikes.

Trust me, I had a bike stolen once and it really hurt. I hate bike thievery in particular. When I was 21, had saved up money and was riding my first street bike (KZ1000J) in Greece, where you couldn't get insurance. Of course it got nicked. I'll post my VIN and give the bike to the rightful owner for free if it has been stolen.

Bike like this pop up all the time. "history unknown"
True story:
Two harley friends, Dana turned me on to my first combat in 87.

Dana is at his buddys house and a 3rd friend in a pick-up stops to visit them . They ask 3rd guy whats that BSA in the truck. Guy is on a paid house for sale property clean out job. "get rid of every thing".......... BSA is on the way to the dump. Even the harley guys will not allow the rusty but complete 63 BSA super rocket to go to the scrap pile. "unload that and push it up against the tree and grab a beer!". A few weeks go by and Dana says hey I'll call Dave he like BSA's.
No title, no bill of sale, no problem. I guess possession is 9/10 of the law. Cost me beer money

However my suggestion is always finalize legal possession/ownership (title) before you spend any money on it. Or you may loose the bike and all the "improvements" you have made.

Matchless G15CS is not especially rare or collectible unless it's in excellent shape.

N15 is a Norton.

Not sure what prefix was used on the AJS bikes...

I wouldn't worry about the title / model prefix, just sell it as-is.

Would need some pix to even start to give a ballpark value...
AJS had 33 or 33CSR prefixs.
33 prefix for MK2 types.

Good to know about Vermont.
Front fender and stays from Commando, not the same for N15.
Rear fender is original but not the rear loop stay.
Instruments holder from commando.
N15 had the Atlas instruments plate.
Forks (stanchions longer than Commando one) missed the roadholder head light hears.
Chain guard not original.
Rear shock absorver had full srhouder.
Handlebar had with cross bar.
If you need pictures of each parts i will send.
Ciao

If you have pictures of the headlight ears and correct instrument setup I would appreciate it. We have a box full of speedos and tacks and their holders. I've seen headlight ears in the parts also. Might as well get as many correct parts on this thing as we can. Thank you.

Hi Rondo,
They look like this:

Sometimes they are chromed but original was black, I believe.

We have chrome in inventory, thanks/
Rondo,
Be aware that the G15 headlight shells were bolted through the headlight ears just like Commandos but the G15 shells used a smaller bolt, 5/16" I believe. So, if your ears are G15 ears the slots are probably for 5/16" bolts. If your headlight shell is a Commando shell, it will require 3/8" bolts, I believe, and will be a mismatch to the G15 ears.

Andover supply the instrument plate and head light ears and grommets.
The same of Atlas also the Smiths grey face instruments (120 mp/h and 8000 rpm).
The front forks and headlight are all the same of Atlas, only the stanchiins longer.
For the correct rear loop stay Walridge supply it.
Andover supply the handlebar too.
Hard to find the battery tray and battery tool but Walridge should supply with sidecovers too.

He pierodn it's great that you weigh in with such knowledge, I'll probably be asking some Q's after I finish my latest non-Norton (gasp!) project.
