I recently replaced the fuel lines on my '74 Commando, but unfortunately, I'm now seeing some seepage which I believe to be coming from one of the banjo fittings at the carburetor. I did not see a gasket here, and assume that the nylon fuel filter basket serves that purpose. I reused those filters, and perhaps the plastic has become hardened over time. Can someone confirm that there is no other gasket here? Does anyone have a good source for these filters? I'm also looking for a source for the paper gaskets for the fuel drain plugs.

Thanks!

That is correct although there is often a fibre washer of the correct size in the gasket kit but that is for alcohol fuel where a metal gauze filter is used instead of the nylon filter.
If the banjos are metal then the bolt should have a fibre washer.

The plastic filters get a set on the flange on the banjo as they age, I keep a pair of new ones on the shelf it the banjo starts weeping.

Awesome! Thanks for all the help guys - and the photo, L.A.B. So, it looks like the missing washer on the bolt is my problem. Checking Ebay, I'm finding replacements, but the prices and/or shipping is absolutely crazy. I think I'll start with a trip to the hardware store. Making the drain plug washers out of leather is a great idea as well. Since I'm often draining my bowls while storing the bike, these fiber washers don't last long.

One of the best additions to my tool box was a set of punches and a 1 ton arbor press. They make making gaskets fun.

I had a fuel leak from what turned out to be the banjo bolt corroding after years of storage. I used Hylomar sealant which is "petrol resistant" (many /most sealants aren't) as a temporary expedient but am leaving it as - is at the moment just to see how well it lasts. Been on their for over a month and perfectly dry so far.

Love Hylomar. Eat it for breakfast. Gas resistant. Feeling a little constipated though lately.

I have full kits of copper and fiber washers of different sizes, I also have tools for making my own gaskets when needed to make them in emergencies as well the patients to make them, every workshop should have them, but a lot of carb gaskets are hard to make so when I do replace gaskets I buy extra for spares but carb gasket last a long time and are reuseable if not over tighten, after 45 years of owning my Norton I have every tools that I need to work on all my bikes and a well set up workshop, I am self taught from day one of owning all my bikes and is the best way to get to know your bikes.
