Has any one made a kit that could be just bolted to replace the carbs?

Saw one once at a UK custom show, and heard about an alleged kit in the US of A last year but...
Any info most welcome, as do not want to have to develop one myself.

Thank you
Rawden

I am presently working on one. It has been a long and trying process. Jim

I think Jim is being modest. He rode his fuel injected Commando some 800 miles from Pueblo Colorado to the Lake O' The Pines Rally near Longview Texas last month (even won "Best Norton Ridden to the Rally). I'd say he has a handle on it!

Plus he had his bike at the PA Endless Mountains Rally the year before. It will be very well tested when it finally makes it to market 'fer shur'.

Fuel injection on a classic Norton?

Blasphemy I say!

Next thing you know, you'll be replacing the points with electronic ignition and the good old rectifier/zener setup with a solid state voltage regulator!

The end of civilization is near...

How far away, time wise?

What is it based on?

The Stage so far

Have modded some Norton Commando inlet manifolds that had prevously nitrous fitted,,,and then found some narrow pencil injectors to "spray the back of the valve head", which seems like a good place to start, they fit like they were made for each other and then use the Amals, sans needles as Throttle Bodies ect

The idea is we can limp 'n slip back home on the carb when the leccy stuff gives up the ghost (technical term)

Also do not want to advertise it, as get too many ruddy questions already...

Last but not least how much are they likely to cost Jim ?

Thank you
Rawden

Jim, if it performs anything like the hydraulic clutch, it will be GREAT.

Can't understand why anyone would want to.

Yes, I understand the advantages of EFI.

But I understand how carbs work, can work on and repair them, and know that they (generally) don't fail catastrophically - they deteriorate over time if not maintained, but it's a slow process. A carb isn't going to up and strand you the way a failed black box will (not that that happens often - now, read my points vs EI thread (NONEXISTENT, it's a JOKE)).

And then there are Keihin FCRs....I'll shut up before someone thinks I have a financial interest in selling these - I don't - but they are just such awesome carbs!!!

All new vehicles seem to be made with EFI as standard.

Most owners do not convert back to carb's

EFI more MPG less Emissions more power, and better throttle response which makes is feel faster..

It is like leccy windows and leccy start, once sampled as an option it is then the de facto std, and is main stream as folks like the benifits.

might be able to find a newer Triumph Bonney, scrambler etc in a salvage yard and get the injectors/throttle bodies and electrics... the injector/throttle bodies even look like carbs... A little fabing to fit it, but a viable option...

I agree with the WHY comment though... I preffer the ability to get it home under it's own power or having to pull the carb bowl on the side of the rode to clean out some trash rather than have to get someone to bring a trailer... This is why I am pulling the Boyer stuff and going back with points... I can fix it and be back riding while others are still waiting on a ride...

Have left the Amals in place to use as throttle bodies, so suppose they could be used still as carbs, in an emergency, so perhaps just think of the injector mounted in the inlet manifold as an addition to the fueling system, that will inject as needed or required.

To keep a head on the project, and to use the firms facilities have looked at the commercial implications.

A Green Grant , to cover dev costs and a bolt on diy kit for about £1000, would give a salable product, which sounds very expensive to most enthusiasts, so needs some added value, like GPS or imobilliser to justify that sort of price as you would not sell hundreds.

Or bundle it with another product like a modern retro-looking set of instruments put a Norton name on it and sell it for a fortune.
