Hi guys,

Dont suppose anyone has pinpointed at which year Norton changed the profile of the front sprocket to shaft splines?... I'm guess early to late gearboxes, so around 2012, but need to be sure for when sending out orders, as later won't fit earlier.
I've included four sprocket images. 1x new Talon, 1x new Norton and two used sprockets...showing two profiles across the four sprockets.

Cheers!

A 2013 had the issues at Cootes also . So sometime in 2013 , But I have it opposite. That the later sprocket will fit the earlier gearbox. The earlier sprocket will NOT slide onto the later shaft , but the later sprocker will fit the earlier shaft. So backwards compatible based on Cootes and John Snead machine shop findings.

Ah, shit, yeah....Ive put it backwards there. Earlier won't fit later. Basically, Talon need to copy the Honho profile, and that should fit both then.

Talk to Matt at Colorado Norton Works.
Hi Lance , I remember that he may have stocked 17T and 19T when there was a batch made by John Snead's machine shop. But the stock 18T was left for Norton to supply.

I have many front sprockets in stock.....earlier profile 🤣
I'll sort it.
Hi Stu , Were the later sprockets made in Taiwan ? So , sometime in 2013 when the spline changed , was that when the gearbox supplier changed ?

Yes but if he has the spline design maybe he could share or Stu have him run a batch if needed was my thought

Isn’t it a Harley Sportster gearbox?

Weren't some Sporties chain drive?

If a later belt drive box, there are chain drive conversions for them.

Praps these fit ?

Hi FE , Sadly no this came up empty . Mean Gene had access to a 2003 and earlier HD Sportster gearset . We did a comparison of the spline count firstly , found Different number of valleys and peaks . Does not match the Norton spline count , and sportster front sprocket offset looks different too. I understand that Ollie has had manufactured a batch of sprockets , but now price will go up unfortunately .

I have a late model sportster front belt pulley to compare with a late 961 front sprocket . , So I will get this done with a calipers etc. and report back but not much hope though .

This won't work , 34 splines on the Norton sprocket and only 33 splines on the late model HD Sportster .
