I picked up and old front ISO unit because I want to try a little experimenting with my front rubbers and didn't want to keep pulling apart my existing unit. I'm a bit confused by the new (old) mount because of the style of the large outer rubbers. They appear to be bonded into a 1\16" steel ring. All the parts diagrams I have seen just show these as rubber on the outer I.D.. At any rate the rings are seized in the mount. The rubber tore out while trying to remove it. Has the engine mount been machined differently to accept this type of ISO? Also it appears there may be a spacer tube in between them to locate them but I wont know until I remove the outer rings. I plan on replacing everything with pre MkIII Iso kit. If anyone could also provide me with an internal measurement of the bore for reference it would be much appreciated.

The early Iso tubes had internal sleeves (item'16' front, '5' rear, link below) which I think is what you could be referring to?

The large diameter rubbers often stick to the inside of the tube whether there is a sleeve or not. The sleeves were not fitted to the later models but as far as I'm aware the IDs of the Iso tubes didn't change.

OEM front early long housing (before being butchered for the "up grades")
06-0418 with full guts
06-1410 bare
then add
primary ISO rubber molded on short tube
spacer tube loose (positioning circlips not shown)
secondary buffers loose

OEM front late short-MKIII housing 06-5510
06-6125 consolidated single molded stick, primary AND secondary rubbers molded on tube
This is the one the after market TRY to recreate and usually fail big time due to improper deflection rate of the rubber
