Hello
The chain guard mount on the swing arm has fractured. I have ordered the repair piece from Andover, or, possibly, the broken part could be welded back. I have done a little MIG welding, but never on anything important, like a Norton. I prefer to do all work myself, wherever possible, so my question is do you think that this is a repair that I could undertake, without major risk of damage or distortion, or should I entrust to someone who actually knows what they are doing? Obviously, I know what the safe answer is, assuming that I can find someone with the necessary skill, but if there is anyone out there who has had to do this repair, perhaps they could give me an opinion.
Mant thanks.

I am by no means an expert and I have one to do myself - waiting for the part to arrive. I'm guessing that MIG or TIG would be better, but I only have a stick welder so that's how I'll do it. However, I have the swingarm off the bike and would not try it on the bike.

If you are asking this then likely your skillset is not quite enough.

A talented professional weldor can easily weld it while on the bike. (TIG, with no spatter)

(For reference, my entire career in the metal trades, I've held ASME Section III, Section VIII and FAA A&P welding certs)

Good luck!

An easy fix, and better than it was before.
The way it is cracked tells me it wasn't correctly welded in the first place.
