Footrest and front chain case mounting on a Ranger 750

Greetings,

My Ranger 750 came in a bunch of boxes, so when it comes to the arrangement of parts unique to P11s, I don't have much to go on. I hope the collective wisdom of the group can enlighten me.
Let's start with the right footrest. I think the collection of parts that extends to the right from the engine plate consists of a hexagon spacer nearest the plate, then a cylindrical spacer nearest the footrest, over a bolt inserted into the small cylindrical piece welded onto the support. The bolt screws into the hexagonal spacer. Right?
The arrangement of supports on the left side associated with the front chain case and footrest is less obvious to me. In the center of the inner chain case halve there are four features arranged in roughly a square. The lower left feature is a boss. The upper left feature is a small hole where a rubber grommet fits through which the alternator wires run. The loser right feature is a hole which I think the center stud passes. I don't have a clue what the upper right feature, a hole about 1/2 inch across is for. The center stud has a hexagonal section that I think butts up against the engine plate. From the parts book it seems like a spacer fits over the center stud shaft and the marks on the back of the inner chaincase indicate it is cylindrical; yes? If so, can anyone supply the dimensions? The parts book says there is a spacer between the two chain case halves, but I think the lower left hand boss on the inner chain case matches a similar boss on the outer crankcase; right? Finally, the center stud protrudes through the outer chain case and is secured to the left footrest support. A washer goes between the footrest support and the outer chain case, and a nut on the outside end of the stud where it protrudes form the footrest support.
I don't think the inner chain case spacer is needed with the Range front chain cases. The casting number for the inner chain case is 033133.
My biggest concern is what is the upper left hand hole is the inner chain case for?

Thanks in advance for all your help, Norm (Ann Arbor)

Per Anthony Curzon:

"Another problem that was
designed out was #035072; a rubber plug that
filled the inner chaincase breather hole. This
being the inner chaincase that was left over
from the G 12 as that crank shaft had a flapper
valve that breathed into the chaincase and the
chaincase being modified to fit the Atlas Twin"

As can be seen from the following photo (courtesy of Paul Morin), the late inner chaincase has a "boss" that the left footrest support stud passes through. If your inner and outer chaincase fit flush at this point, you do not use the inner chaincase spacer.

The inner chaincase may need spacing to assure it fits perfectly flat against the crankcase and crankcase spacer. You do not want the footrest support putting a stress on the three inner chaincase to crankcase screws. The proper thickness washer on the stud will do the trick. This is probably the cylindrical impression you see on the back of the inner chaincase.

Ron,

That's exactly the information for which I was looking. Thanks very much. From the picture, it also looks like two paper gaskets are used, one on each side of the large spacer that fits between the motor and the front of the inner primary chain case.

Norm

Yes, two gaskets on the chaincase to crankcase spacer. Be careful tightening those three screws there are not a lot of threads in the crankcase.

Ron,

My parts manual does not have a reference/number for the paper gaskets. Do you know if these gaskets have a number, and if so what it is? Alternatively, they don't look like they would be too hard to make. Do you have any idea of their thickness?

Norm

P/N 06-7779 available from Walridge Motors. I cut my own from gasket material I had in the shop using the spacer as a template. No idea of original thickness, but old gaskets I have removed appear to be fairly thin paper, if that helps.
