I'm renewing the front isolastic mount for overhaul and possible replacement. How hard should it be to get the main bolt out. I have the head off anyway so have the bike on it's side stand and the weight of the engine taken on a jack. I've managed to get the bolt about an inch into the mount but it's not moving very fast. I'm having to resort to hitting it with a lug hammer which is moving about 5mm for every 5 hits.

Should it be this hard? There's quite a bit of play in the bolt so I' think I've got the support with the jack right. Is it normal for it to be this stiff or should I wait until I have the head back on?

Many thanks,

Spray lots of penetrant and keep whacking. They tend to rust in the bore.

That bolt goes through three steel spacers; maybe rust inside the spacers is keeping the bolt from sliding out?
It happens to automobile suspension components here in Detroit where the roads are salted all winter. Jim P.

I have learned that when removing parts from old Commandos, sometimes you have to really beat things like they owe you money.
