Can anyone review me on lowest low gear that's available and who might have em?
Want to creep about as slow as possible and some kick off advantage.

I had some help a couple of days ago from Dave... looks like 19t is the lowest. old brits also has a ratio chart, Cj in MD.

Sprockets are available from 19 to 24 teeth. What kind of riding do you want to do? A 24T is highway cruising, and with a stock MKIII it'll be lame around town.Dave from CT

I think Hobot is looking for a supplier of transmission gears in different ratios. A really low first gear and the rest normal. Granny gears, dif lock and a low range box that's what you need.

Yep, I thought about that after I hit submit, you must be right, but i didn't know that you had a choice gears for rebuilding the inside the gear box. I'm learning more and more every day,... now I just need to find some time & get out into the garage myself.Cj

Yes Wolfe is right, I want lowest 1st cog set for inside AMC tranny. Should be less commited thrust forward with a 24T drive sprocket. So far RGM is only one I've found offering 1st gear choice. If ya go up in ratio as a racer might the cog gets too small for kicker reachet teeth to fit, so bump start only after that's installed.

Wolfe, my '83 short bed Chevy Hi Serra has 4:11 pumpkins, rear lock up with low range stump puling. With mud cleat ice spiked tires did just fine in record breaking snow this year, climbing steeps with good load of wood in bed. Did not need to follow no dang roads either, just dodge bigger vegetation and drop offs. Eyeballed some new logged raw hillsides that looks so temping to try on lifted Ms Peel, with low enough first she can lug and climb w/o much throttle and lift front over stuff with just a blip like MX's do.

Our old ALlis chalmers 5030 had a 30hp diesel it was only 2wd, had the dif lock pedal and a 12 speed box. granny gear 1st at idle was good for .01mph. Hooked up to many stumps to pull out often saw the front wheels over 3 feet off the ground.

Like LAB said, the lowest first gear set is the 29/13 layshaft/mainshaft combination. When used with the "wide ratio" 23/14 high gear pair, you have a first gear ratio of 3.6649. If there's anything available for the Norton gearbox lower than that, I've not heard of it. Should be good for that motorcycle tractor pull contest, eh?

Ok Ken thanks for pipping in and interpreting LAB's report into final out put. To gear up as fast as I think I want Ms Peel to go, means regular 1st might be too fast to take in my driveway w/o slipping clutch. I lost your gearing charting, along with 3 yrs back saved files, though recovered rest of files back over a decade. At least a dozen mentors emails - now deceased by age or crashes.

Trouble with dealing with RGM is there is never any feedback an order went through till it shows up. Wonder if TTIndustries have a low-low 1st, w/o extra-extra cost.

Any ID how fast this first might go at say 2000 rpm, with say 22T drive sprocket?
Trial and stunts are more a fascinating challenge to me than spanking sports bikes for refreshment.

Next in line to restore after the Nortons for Plowing, dragging and road grading. I drove it to its resting place and shut off and covered, so not too bad.
Frist gear, how low can ya go?
