Just heard from my dad a good friend of mine had an accident. I believe it was a red light runner that got him. He is in the hospital as of this morning 9:45 with both legs broken and brain injury. They are operating now.

Be careful out there, especially anyone riding in urban environments.

He was on his way to my dads to help torque his bonneville head. So Sad.

Death and skull icons are integral part of motorcycling tough luck attitude as no way can one behave well enough to have control of life and limb once in a saddle.
So suck it up and cry with the rest of us. Its proven fact its stupid and illogical to ride motorcycle or horses and expect nothing life changing at some point. Regardless of the seeming recovery unless he's taken to neurologist beyond medical level nothing but symptoms will be dealt with so long term has very poor prognosis.
Thanks for another spike in my heart relating to those feeling it directly forever more. Safe Journey till the end. hobot

Yah I think its gonna be a long road for him. I'm glad he's gotton this far. The first night was bad. They have only woken him up a couple times for a shoirt while in the last few days. The ingury list is long.

He's gonna make it though and he won't be in a wheelchair. Good news indeed!!

I just wanted to post it up since its summertime and in urban environments there's cars coming from all angles out there.

Thanks for the good word.

I remember Christopher Reeve horse breaking his neck and got to see his MRI. All the medics were just using him to push stem cell experiments in the brain but ignored that the neck break fractured C3 and was still poking into the breathing center of the brain stem. They medics were surprised that his breathing recovered a good bit w/o any brain treatment, and failed to notice or take in account that someone arranged him in his chair with a type of unintended traction that gradually relieved the vital center. I've seen verified brain stroke cases recover speech and balance and limb function by traction to the neck. There may be a clue in this for your hurting survivors

Thats scary. I was in a bad accident a long while ago and I broke thoracic 7 and lumbar 3. I had to lear n to walk again. Took about a year to get back to "normal". Then they had to put me through surgery again to pull all the gear back out. Life changing and I am thankful to all involved that aided in my recovery. I am especialy thankful I was not involved in "clinical trials" of any sort. It seems there are a few different camps out there in the medical field. Depending on the circumstances you can end up a guinea pig. My mother had cancer and they wasted time on non proven treatment and she is not here any more.

I think the spinal injury recovery treatments will make a turn for the better in our lifetime. I just dont know when.

Oh my icermann, its hard for others to relate to spinal and brain injury effects unless they have had them to survive through. As long as the brain stem upper cord neck area ain't yet involved then about anything else can be expected to recover. Walking is done by the spine cord programs, not the brain, which can only robotically, walk [or play music] till the spinal cord neuron crew pick up the skill again. If your old injury areas flair up on ya or other new stuff remember my pointing at the sniper in the neck that can shoot upward as well as downward and outward. Best wishes to all us getting to old age intact.

Wow iceteanolemon, Sorry to hear of your friends accident, again it seems its' almost always the "other guy" that we have to look out for the most. When I was younger I was my own worst enemy ( lots of wrecks and various broken bones ) but I'm hopefully past all that Evel Knievel stuff. I always wear a helmet these days along with gloves and boots and soon a joe rocket type jacket with ABS plastic armour inserts. Still it's no match for the jack ass that T-bones you at an intersection. Glad that your friends outlook is for the better. Was it a drunk driver?? Cj

It wasnt someone drunk thankfully. I am just happy dudes not losing legs over this one. I think the riding in a dense urban environment is the biggest risk. More people more problems.

I think its more risky in my rural area than congested city traffic, so putting the two together means we are all stupid risk takers with shocks to face like hitting a wall ourselves or from injury to others taken down.
