Frankenbike

Had a gold base and had taped off some stripes for airbrushing in some other colors and lost interest. He wanted the unfinished, hideous to me, set. Left gas, right oil, and big front mudguard which came off a servi-car I started chopping( 45 meter maid)….. Life before Norton.

You do know you’re saying all this on a public forum right ? ;)

A long time ago..... Young and didn't know better, but it was fugly indeed. Almost had to bleach my eyes.... Still can't get iron head sportys out of my blood though.
I run a lot of red lights because I still can't stomach seeing too much green in a day.

Back to red, brighter red. Just did the front mudguard and seat pan.

I think it’s too Marlboro Formula 1

Do the tank too and then make an assessment. I like the new red, also I'd be tempted to put a Woody Woodpecker decal on the disc To give it some character.

I can make a mess of it all by my self, I don’t need any help LOL

Not really much else to do in this part of the world on a rainy day.

What is your plan for the rest of the bike??
This is a good time to get working on the engine if you can. Exchange rates are good and time is plentiful.

I think I post too much tho...

Seriously dude... we need MORE threads like this one and MORE posts.

Keep ‘em coming !

I really like the tail unit in that bright red. It makes the tank look awful by comparison.

If this bike doesn’t end up a bitchin’ ‘Fast Red’ I’ll eat my head gasket...

You are on track to surpass the current record holder (480 posts) and you haven't even gotten to the engine!

Should we shoot for 1k?? I'm in!

I agree with FE, once it is done professionally (no insult intended) and properly lacquered it will look fantastic. If that red is “too red” then have a look at the Norton candy apple red as it is the right period colour but that said, I like the new red.

The only reason I suggested the decal or one similar is they always marked the fighter planes... U-boats also. Don't take a dive when you get it running though. Brittunculi may have been a bit too stiff necked for it but everyone else played the game...… fishing here boss.

I couldn't help myself on that one. It' just that the Romans weren't overly fond of your ancestors and corresponded about their treatment of them often.

That red in candy would give a priest an erection for years to come.

After posting the above and not being slapped... I went out and woke up Baby treating her to a tank of 93 for a 25 mile jaunt down the almost empty highway. I permitted a bit of proper exercise and allowed her to run about 85-90 a couple of times in a hurry... We both came away inspired, restored & invigorated for whatever may come

Get that motor & drive train going before time passes you by. Once you're riding it you'll not give a fig about colors. All of that worry and concern shall become meaningless before the roar and thunder as it hunkers down in the twisties. Red Dragon whizzing past.

How about your darker red surrounded by your lighter red. Similar to this https://images.craigslist.org/00X0X_7RBIpu7fD3A_600x450.jpg

I don't remember about exhaust for your bike, but I saw these https://orangecounty.craigslist.org/mpo/d/cypress-triumph-poster-real-dunstall/7081439649.html

The picture of the dare I say it, Triumph with reverse paint to this Norton tank, black top, red panel with gold name broken by white linings looks slightly better IMO, but it's your bike, you can encapsulated it with diamonds .............

IMHO keeping it simple is best for a cafe racer.

Candy paint, encapsulated diamonds and too much bling can make it look a bit too ‘show’ whereas solid paint and less bling, with tasteful styling and engineering, make it look more ‘go’.

I’d take design inspiration from something like a new Molnar Manx or similar: virtually no chrome and very little polished alloy... simple paint... and drop dead gorgeous...!

As we know, opinions are like b*ttholes… so permit me my rear end, please :) IMHO there's lovely colours out there, but what works for one style, doesn't fit another. That tank is too slab sided for candy colours, in my humble estimation. I also love a well polished bike in Dorchester Grey a la Commander, understated but classy but totally wrong for this style of bike. Definitely think this needs a bold primary colour, with one or two defining decals perhaps?
