If you have a Gus Kihn tank, it ain't a PR.

Therefore, Nigel is correct, painting it yellow will open up a space time portal into a world of future hurt.

Therefore, red.

I agree here. Real PR's should be yellow. The GK tank gives the freedom to do whatever.
The red looks good, the big red tank could use a little softening, lettering and striping will probably do it.
Since it is a custom, just to confuse the issue more, I'd probably go two tone, green with silver accents.

I actually agree and never thought of that. To be a PR replica, I am limited as to what I can do or be ridiculed by the PR purists. Not that there’s anything wrong with purists, but this will never be a PR because it wasn’t born that way.

I like red, but I think the red I have now is too deep. I’m looking at another brighter red, but that may be too bright (see below). Green and silver is a great idea.

What I like best about this conversation is that I was going back and forth often worrying that if it’s not yellow it’s not a PR, but as you guys are saying, it isn’t especially with the Gk tank, which I love!

I was also thinking black pipes, also not PR.

I have a lot of time now as my offices are closed due to the Coronavirus. I live in New York just outside of NYC and not too far from New Rochelle which is the virus epicenter. I think I’ll be home for a long time. I hope everyone here stays safe and healthy!

I’ll eventually soda blast all the fiberglass and start fresh or have it done professionally. But now is the time to choose the colors and be happy with the choice. I’d hate to spend the money to have it professionally painted and not be happy with it.

And I did hear that red is faster...

Wow, that is perspective. The first red almost looks burgundy. It’s actually not really red at all. I’m glad I did that.

Maybe I just have the wrong red?

Red is so very fast..... and good stripes add another 25 mph to that.

You have to be super careful being too custom. A lot of people’s interpretations are a little far out.

I admire the creativity, but I want a Norton Commando.

I like green also. Sort of goes with British racing. But there again, there are thousands of shades of green.

I also think I went wrong with using Rustoleum. It’s a house paint. I may try dupi color. They are at least automotive paints and will have a pearl or flake in them and may give me a better finish than looking like a colonial fireplace.

I know, I know, I’m picture crazy...sorry about that, but it’s easier than describing.

The fender isn’t the right red either, but it shows how wrong the other red is.

This is a nice green. There’s actually a seat like this for sale on eBay but it’s 500 bucks and I already have a seat.

What do you guys think of this seat?

I know it’s a John Player seat pan, but that could take me in an entirely different direction, and not a bad one either.

I know, I’m being crazy...

Maybe it’s different in the flesh, but from your pics, I like that front mudguard red.

I agree with a Fast Eddie, I like the red on the front mudguard, however - your first thought was this

What about this red?

Or perhaps this green

I love that green, but I’d worry that it’s so specific. You’d have to match it exactly.

The good news is that I’m not in a hurry, I think I’ll be inside for a while. Hope I don’t lose my job.
