Frame Painting

The first step in my rebuild is complete. Painted the frame night before last. I made a nifty jig out of stuff I had kicking around the shop. It gave me full access to everything, and I never had to touch the work:

I hope to install the engine this coming week (provided mt Dave Taylor head steady arrives on schedule).

You may want to consider doing a little welding before proceeding. We always add to the inside gusset to extend the support of the rear rail. Just cut new longer ones out of 1/16 sheet metal and weld them in place over the old ones. About a 1 1/2 up to 2 inches longer than stock. Well worth the trouble before you get too far.

I'm a lousy welder and having someone else do it would cost money. I'm also running a solo saddle, so if what you're talking about reinforces the passenger support, it's a non-issue.

Been on another brief hiatus while working on an A65. (Yes, I know, but I couldn't bear seeing it sitting outside a Harley man's garage for the last 6 years! Ignominy!)
Gist of this is-- Last night I put the paint to the frame. Captain's jig looks really nice, but I usually hang mine off of the rafters with some old load straps. One from front to back and one over the rafter so it will turn easily. You can raise, lower, angle and turn the frame at will and don't have to touch the work to do this.
