Hello, new to Nortons (as my user name might suggest) and have done a lot of searching trying to identify whether the number on a frame I am interested is the correct format. The number is 850 100F056 however, from what I can determine, frame number format is most likely to be 850 FXXXXX. Is the frame number on the frame I am considering a correct format. Thanks Richard

The standard format is 850 F1xxxxx.

Until the MK3 this extra frame number was not supposed to be used by registration authorities so errors should have no significance. What the factory wanted however was ignored, my MK2A has the correct matching engine stamp and red plate stamp but the dealer still used the 850F1***** number as the frame number in the UK. According to the NOC dating man the 850F stamp was to be in a place covered by the red plate pre MK3, as mine is an Italian frame they take the blame ;) as it is well outside the plate.
