Fork Ears on Early Roadster?

Al,
I am always confused about the 'R' model. It is listed with the 'Commando spares List', but is very sketchy. I am not sure what model the spares book with supplements for 69 and 70 is basically about because they have the 69 'R' , 69 'S' and 69 Fastback and the last page lists the ''70 Roadster Only' in the last pages as addendum. There must not have been many 'R' models made? Is the basic 'Commando Spares List' about the 67-68 Commando which looks like a fastback to me?

Confusion reigns again.

You're correct...there were very few R Types built. Good guess is around 300.

The early 20M3 Commando was not known as "Fastback" until 1970 I think. The "S Type" and the "70 Roadster" are the same except for the exhaust. I believe the 70 Roadster was available with more colour choices.

For an "R Type" use the '69 spares list and supplement the 20M3 "Fastback" with the "R Type" pages. It's basically a 20M3 with "S Type" fueltank, seat, tailpiece and fenders.

If'n yer agoin' to Lumby you'll prolly see this one there... 8)

Take a look at this contemporary pic from the Andover site: http://www.andover-norton.co.uk/NCRModel.htm which proves that Tony's pic shows a pretty correct bike.

The "R" also has the early exhaust and the early "featherbed fork ears". That might actually explain the original "fork ear" question but then the bike in question is not a Roadster.

I beleive the R only had like the 68-early 69 Fastback the rev counter driven from the end of the cam and points where the magneto would have been. I came across one some years ago and it slip through my fingers.

That's what Tony referred to as 20M3. The points-on-cam-cover-Commandos are 20M3S.
