fork cap nuts

I am looking for the fork cap nuts that have the plug in the center so you can change oil w/o taking the cap nut off. I'm pretty sure I've seen these in stainless and for commando's, but cannot find them, anyone know who has them.

I'm not sure you could do that. The rod in the forks threads into the underside of the fork nuts. You must be thinking of some modern or modifide forks.

You may be confused after seeing a bike or 2 with that brass center in the top of the fork cap nut. These are Lansdowne Adjustable fork dampeners and the nut is part of the entire unit/system. These are the adjustment points for compression and rebound and not plugs. No fork cap nuts have plugs ((at this time) as far as I know).

You're sort of right on what you've seen...the top nuts actually have two holes on either side of center. One to allow oil in, the other to allow the tube to breathe while you're filling. Think I have gotten mine from Bruce Chessel in the past.

They are stainless, and make changing fork oil a breeze.

Those are the ones builder. I saw them a few years ago and never picked any up. I'll try and see if it was bruce that had or has them, thanks again.

Huh, someone sells these now. Back in my day we had to drill top bolts 2 holes with allen screw plugs. It still don't work well, messy spills and burps of fluid as bubbles push out, UNLESS > the spring washers are drilled or slotted for more oil path as well.

Ms Peel's are done this way. To add fluid I hang-support a big plastic cattle syringe as a calibrated funnel with hose end stuck in a top nut hole and sometimes another hose with expanded top end stuck in the other hole so burps don't spill down forks.
Al top bolts are easier to modify than chrome or SS steel items.

Exactly as you describe, but I've never had to mess with trimming the spring washer. I use one of those syringes to pump a turkey full of marinade before deep frying. Takes multiple "shots" for each leg, but it keeps from making a mess and is a good way to measure as the syringe is graduated. You simply can't inject the entire load in at once, but if you take it slow I find that there is no mess at all.

I think I bought my first set 6-8 years ago? So they've been around for a while...

builder my respects on such fine eye hand coordination over mine after many careful and 'clever' attempts to just get a measured amount in, ugh.
Maybe my washers are too big or holes not far enough apart for smooth flow in and no fluid burps out. Cool. I assume the vendor items and yours have taken this into account better than my first attempt. I'm still stumbling on Cdo learning curve balls.

Yes, search the forum for Amal sleeving. Bruce left his contact info there. He's taken down the site to focus on a family member but may take on work.
