Fork alignment

If the front suspension works then its aligned, much more likely the rear wheel needs aligning to the front wheel. But also all pre MK3 850's drift to one side slightly, mine doesn't but I spent a lot of time getting the rear wheel aligned to the front.
 
Check that both wheels are in the same plane by hanging a plumb bob from the tires. Swingarms are mostly bent.... I don't think mine has ever been straight. The used one I bought here... bent too!
 
Yes, wheels need to be in the same plane but also in line with the steering axis, drop a line through the headstock - this is your datum.

Straightening the swinging arm should be a mandatory task when restoring a bike. It isn't difficult to do. All you need is a hydraulic press, two axles, and some V-blocks.
