Force Reduction Ride

If you remember last week I posted a picture from a ride in the Oregon countryside. Here’s the video from that ride. @Mike T goes on about the Triumph but I know he’d much rather be on his Commando. A while ago I’d done some research into the different sized Interstate tanks. That dissertation is somewhere on this forum. The fiberglass tanks, steel tanks and MkIII tanks were all slightly different capacities. My steel tank is 7.7 US gallons. So putting in 4 gallons was just over half.

Another Mighty Garage fan here! I finally got my first Norton last November, still sorting some details, looking forward to Spring! Who knows, I may end up down in the Cul de sac one day? Mine's a Roadster, but those Interstates are very interesting...7.7 gallons, omg!

Mike's Triumph is a beautiful looking vintage motorcycle example.

I had a 1973 Mk1 850 Interstate it's standard steel tank didn't have the internal baffle and was visually larger than a Mk2/3 interstate steel tank. It had a capacity over 6 UK gallons.

That's not because you guys have "little" gallons over there?
My Interstate only takes 6 gallons.

Interstate Tank Variations

This started when yesterday I put 6.83 US gallons in my Interstate tank. I had always assumed from the literature that the capacity was 6.6 US gallons. So I did some research and it seems there were at least three different tanks and possibly six. And that doesn't take into account any...

The most I've put in mine (that I wrote down) was 6.83 US Gallons. Real gallons. Not those metric gallons.

See the link above. You might have one of the smaller MkIII tanks.
