Well I knew he was right, I had immediate proof...... ;)

But as a young technician it was my first indication that trusting technical data without confirming the veracity of it may not be smart! o_O
The first indication of many I imagine !!

Oil test graphics
These will soon be in the main database with links to the datalogs

WOW!
Impressive graphic analysis of all your work.
Will be using these for next purchase now that I know my seat of pants choice of Redline 20-50 is worthless glop of semi-glue. hahaha
Thanks Jim!
BTW - not seeing where I can get MOA 115 in USA.

So, if I understand the tables, for a non-modified engine, all oils listed in all charts OTHER than the bottom chart (oils that may cause excessive wear) are deemed suitable, right?

Yes, But that depends on the riding conditions, the engine tune [compression and valve spring pressures] and of course your right hand.

The oils with high heat from friction can definitely raise the engine temps considerably on a hot day at highway speed.

That's impressive work Jim, take the afternoon off to go and vote...... Oooops

Thanks for all that BIIIIIIIG job Jim.

When you'll have some free extra time, just come in for a coffee.

The coffee pot is on.

I wish I could take credit for all the graphics but I had help. I'm not worth a shit when it comes to Excel...

So after changing from Rock Oil Synthesis (recommended by Pete Lovell) to Redline 20/60 because of the higher zddp content I have probably done more harm than good...sigh!
Well the engine is in bits at the moment anyway awaiting crankcase to cradle mounting repairs and a modification while waiting on some JS conrods and pistons to arrive.

So an earlier unaswered question I posed on this thread a while ago: bearing in mind it will be a brand new cam, reground followers but new pistons and freshly honed barrel too what would you recommend oil wise so I don't glaze the bores but still give adequate protection for the cam?

Generally you would want to avoid any of the real low friction oils.

Since you are using JS parts you should ask him what he recommends. Jim

Well, I went ahead and upped the anti for five of the oils I was considering for my bike.
I set the tester up to start out with the normal 220 degree warm-up for 25 minutes.
Then I set it to run for 5 hours with a set load of 300 lbs, with only cooling for the oil -no cooling for the follower. [I put a cover over it to keep it out of the air blast]

I though I would compare the wear mark on the follower after the test.

Five oils:
Bel Ray V-twin synthetic
Mobil 1 v-twin with BG-MOA
Klots 25W60 with FR3 additive
Red Line 60 with BG-MOA
Royal Purple HPS 20W50

I didn't end up comparing the wear marks. Only one oil survived for 5 hours without breaking down.

And the winner is....... Royal Purple HPS 20W50

It looks like this will be the choice for my bike. Not what I expected.

I am now out of arbor races and the oil tester is being retired to the storeroom.

Thanks again to everyone who contributed to making this happen. I know I learned a lot. 240 arbor races destroyed in the process.

Indeed, huge thanks and a well done Jim.
The HPS 20w50 is available in the U.K. too and we’ve no need to worry about where to buy the MOA additive from!
I’ll be getting my Royal Purple order in shortly.
