I was riding home last Thursday and got caught in a drenching rain. I pulled into the local pub to sit it out but of course they didn't let me bring my bike inside. So now I have a fogged up speedo. The tach is fine. Seeking advice. Is this an owner servicible kind of thing or does it take the experts to fix the seal and dry it out?

Thanks
Russ

The units are not airtight, if you pull out the instrument bulb holder that should help it dry out a little more quickly. Or as swooshdave suggests, you can acellerate the process by gently warming the unit.

Yes hould come right in time, my clocks always come back to clear when te weather clears, especially if, after a rain storm, you get to do some fine weather riding. If you were concerned and you had the bike parked up i the shed, you could hook theinstrument globe up to a 12v power source and leave it on overnight, that should absorb the moisture?

Cheers Richard

I can certainly use the time honored hair dryer method. What concerns me is the amount of moisture below the glass is excessive. This while the tach remains clear, so I was assuming this was not normal. I was affeared that perhaps it would degrade the mechanism if repeated often.

Thanks

I sit mine out in the sun or place a low wattage bulb on lens. Hair dryer is tedious and can over heat lube to flow off or plastic parts to distort.
Don't know if the lower boot protectors help or hurt moisture condensation, I couldn't tell but heard they can make it worse, sheeze.

had had to deal w/ this on my Ducati Monster last winter and was highly motivated as damp gauges on it can kill the bike entirely due to the &^%$#@ immobiliser...but that is another story...anyway via Google learned that rice works really well as a desiccant, put the gauges in a ziplock bag with some rice and they dry out quickly, no more fogged lenses.

Have the same problem, also not on Tach. I've used a hair dryer successfully. Sun works great also - pulled the bulb to allow some of the moisture to get out when the speedo heats up.
I've started bringing a plastic bag with me and a rubber band to hold it on if I expect rain.
