Fixed Pegs. Why?

After reading the 1970 article, I couldn't help but notice the comment that referred to the non folding pegs. It was mentioned that the lack of non folding pegs hindered the performance on the race track. As one that did some amature road racing when my Norton was new as well as some highly illegal mountain road racing in Up State NY, I have to agree. I recall having to put six pegs on the left side and seven on the right, not to mention grinding off the head of the exhaust clamp bolt.

Why did they not put on folding pegs?

Cost.

Presumably because not everybody went racing! And those that did would have fitted rearsets. Who would seriously consider going racing with the standard (too far forward) footrest arrangement?

Cost maybe but for sure mild crash protection. Loved the image of knocking so many pegs off- really got to trust the tires and your grip which is so freeing to fun and games.
