This evening i had my first breakdown (after 11,000 glorious miles) where i was stuck. and after reading all the old threads on loose exhaust nuts i am down :( oh, and i had all the signs. this season was the first loose exhaust nut. 2 more times carefully retightend, bent tabs back. the last time i added some anti-seize and it stayed tight and i thought i was clear. cruising down the 2 lane at 70, all of a sudden she sounds different. the last tighten i did a poor job on the lock rings and the nut rattled the port threads useless. after reading the previous post i suspect iso's because i have other symtoms. also the joint clamp on the same side has come loose on a few occasions. so.....i assume my riding is over untill head repair. my bike has a balance pipe and 21,000 miles on it. is there just one fix for threads? i have read phil at fair spares does this. any suggestions on the proper fix always appreciated. funny, thursday i was going to ride 150 miles to the airport for a flight. probably would have missed my flight. i am envious of all you multi-bike people. damn, she was running so good

Don't use the tab washers. As you've found, they don't keep the nuts from loosening. The nuts come loose, rattle around against the tabs, and strip the threads.

It happened to me on a road trip too, years ago. I was able to borrow a pipe wrench, cross thread the nuts back on  , and ride about 150 miles home. The head went out for repair when I got back.
