7 months after a nasty accident I am finally at the reconstruction stage of my beloved Commando... I've been buying parts for months and now it begins!
This is the frame (bought on evilbay, checked and painted):

I will keep posting pictured as it goes... There is even a professional photographer next door who wants to make a website of the rebuilding....

AHA! Good starting spot - paint the frame similar to the $75,000 Commando!

Slowly... CNW triple tree , disc and Brembo; kitted fork; Exel rim; nickel engine plate & Ikon...new swing arm bushings..

Yum, frame strikes me like saloon backdrop picture of golden naked gal reclining
and inviting. Yum.

Ouch................Glad your OK.
I like green. What kind of front brake did you have?
Is that a master cylinder on the left? Hydraulic clutch?

the brake was a French, small production, double inside disk, like a clutch, airplane brake principal...exploded on impact (cast iron) yes the clutch is hydraulic : Magura kit for a CR Honda.

What kind of accident caused that damage?

A young squid (22 years old) on his brand new 1198 missed a turn and Tboned me in between the frame and the front wheel...never saw him (or do not remember...): compound femur and broken humerus with nerves damages: despite 3 surgeries I still cannot use my right arm...too bad with a garage full of bikes!

I had similar damage to my beloved from an accident. Took a lot longer for me to get fixed than it did the bike, but that was years ago. Will love to see your progress and glad your ok.

There is a book about the fates of early flyers, called Fate Is The Hunter.
Applies to us all ever time we sit on a bike.
Deer that matter hit from the sides unseen too.

I've over come some duzies by DIY methods. Maybe Tim can give
ya clue what to do. Or ping me private.
Got to get on with those recovery projects to enjoy a long time.

Very tragic and totally irresponsible of some to cause damage to others. I hope the guilty squid had good insurance.

Your bike was very nice, i'm sure the rebirth will be equally nice, or perhaps better!

I hope you recover reasonable use of your arm very soon.

Tks Granpaul! The kid had the minimum insurance and no assets! In the end it was my "under / not insured" policy add on who paid me something ( with 1/3 to my lawyer ). My bike was reimbursed for $7000. But PLEASE guys check your policies for under/ not insured driver policy this is a must if you are not hit by a house owner/wealthy driver! For $200, in CA, a year it the best spent money!!!

And that's why I stay far away from Alice's Restaurant and surrounding area, especially during the spring migration of Ninja lemmings headed for the hills to test Darwin's theory of survival of the fittest!

Back in the day when Highway 9 wasn't all double yellow lines and Skyline was not a parade of cars, I too tested Darwin's theory! 8) New bikes are so fast and all kids need is cash plus testosterone to get in trouble. Riding a motorcycle is not a video game!

That the Navy kid had no assets is not surprising, but I'm amazed that he did not have a healthy liability policy. The military is ordinarily/absolutely death on motorcyclists who are young/inexpereinced -- the Army won't even let them on post w/o evidence of a several hundred $K policy and two days of the MSF course. Even then it literally takes a note from Mom (immediate commander) to finish the process.

What did the Navy have to say about all this?

Sorry the term squid did not imply the kid was in the Navy (he just got out of the Air Force).... squid is a bad way of calling riders who are all of over the road, dead or alive !
