I am once again roadworthy...what started as a "simple" swing arm spindle replacement turned into nearly a total strip down....

ended up replacing front and rear iso's (Mick Hemmings mod), the swing arm spindle and bushes, new clutch plates (CNW barnett set up), clutch rod seal, gearbox shifter seal mod (CNW), stainless rocker oil lines from Mick Hemmings full cosmetic refurb which included, front mudguard (CNW), painted an old rear mudguard (not original) to match the front, tank painted, new seat. I didn't want to mess with the electrics that much, so I painstakingly hand painted the frame with 4 coats of black paint when the oil tank, battery carrier, engine, gearbox, etc were removed.....I sanded down each coat to take any imperfections out...the swing arm, battery carrier, center stand, side stand, cradle and front mount were all powder coated.

the engine has only 4300 miles on the rebuild so it didn't need anything and the gearbox was also rebuilt a couple thousand ago...

there are some little personal changes that I did, like the rear tail light..(I hate that huge plastic boxy thing they put on in '74) and
the seat is from a Truimph that I am making a proper mount that'll utilize the original lock downs...I also got, but haven't mounted the CNW Brembo master cylinder....

THANKS to everyone who replied to my posts in the past 6 months..........and it took exactly 6 months.

On day one, I smashed my thumb trying to knock out the spindle....
finally back on the road!

It took 6 months for the smashed thumbnail to grow out...

finally back on the road!

Also thanks to Matt Rambow at CNW and both Mick and Angie Hemmings....all three were always available by phone if I had any questions.

anyway.....here he is!

finally back on the road!

Was the Mick Hemmings iso mod straightforward ? That's something i've been meaning to do on my 850 for years.

piece of cake.....it is possible to do both front and rear without removing anything but the nut off the left side of the iso thru bolts......that's if you only want to install the vernier adjustors.

I had it all apart, so all new rubbers, thru bolts, ptfe washers...the whole lot was renewed. if you want to install only the adjustors, on the rear, you remove the nut on the left side...tap the thru bolt as far as the spacers, shims, end cap (if it's shimmed) drop out and slide the new verniers in place. the battery carrier is kind of in the way, a bit...the front is even easier.

adjusting the iso's with the vernier adjustor in place is easy, you could even adjust it on the side of the road if needed.

I like that look!

In no way will I ever consider selling my Steel Interstate tank!

yes, I agree......this is in fact the original steel tank that came with the bike...I am the second owner. the side covers are safely stored at home.

the seat gives it a manxy feel.

great looking bike! I like the seat. Is that a flat handle bar or a clubman bar?

it's a fully adjustable Tommaselli bar...

finally back on the road!

I picked them up from Bevel Heaven in Northern California, but you can get them many places. A friend of mine has a 900SS and I waited for when he ordered some parts and I saved on shipping.

What additional disassembly work for the "full monty" you describe?

here's a breakdown of the work completed and/or new parts
front and rear Iso's renewed
Mick Hemmings vernier adjustors
rear swing arm spindle and bushes
a Heinz Kegler swing arm mod
swing arm powder coated
spindle end cap and thru rod mod
new rear brake shoes
backing plate and drum cleaned up and powder coated and painted
new rear wheel disc hub (yes the one that always gets dented if you even breath on it)
stainless rear axle and dummy axle
center stand powder coated
side stand powder coated
new clutch plates (Barnett)
new clutch center
new hardware thru out the primary chaincase assembly including all new inspection plugs
oil tank and battery carrier removed, cleaned and powder coated
gearbox cradle removed and powdercoated
front engine mount removed and powder coated
engine steady assembly removed and powder coated
stainless rocker feed lines installed
all new oil lines
CNW oil line breather/vent
CNW front fender/mudguard

I had the tank paint work touched up (i chipped the paint job I had done last year)

I left the front end on since I had it off last summer and didn't need anything

these were the old front iso's and this prompted me to start pulling the whole bike apart
finally back on the road!

The dust dampens the vibrations, I would have left it alone.

Eric, what size are those clip-ons ? they used to be only available in metric sizes and the 35mm was too large to clamp on the Norton tubes.
