Here, anyway,,, they have to be crimped to the outer plastic sheathing as one crimp.
Aparently the plastic outer has to be part of the overall set up.
And they have to be date and maker ID stamped. If I get pulled over the cops can book me if they are like the fitting you are using.
Screw together fittings are not legal here.

I've used the same fittings that you have and never had a problem, but they will not pass a road worthy inspection. (here)

These are Aeroquip parts, not some shoddy ebay crap. Of course no inspections in Oregon and they sure don't care about some 40 yr old bike.

Yep, same here... S.A.
Oil or water lines are allowed, but definately not Brake lines, as they need to be made and pressure tested by "authorised" person.
I'm happy to pay someone to do my brake lines.
Not having a go at you swoosh, so don't go getting snappy.
AC.

I don't mind. I trust the quality of the parts and I made sure it was good and snug. I doubt I'll ever have a problem.

Be interested to see how long the side brkts last before vibration fractures them (thru' the outer clamp half). Definitely need some thick rubber washers under the side plates to fairing. Not sure if it helps the brkts survive very long but it must help. Mine are 1/10" medium hard rubber, a little softer than household tap (faucet) washers. Also used button heads to improve tank clearance and make sure you align the nut flats for max clearance as well.

I use a rubber tank mount washer between the side mount and the fairing on each bolt.
If you look close you can see them here. (also the tiny turn signals).

So its functionally adequate just not DOT legit. Might consider a decorative wrap to seal the gap left mis cutting length of outer wrapper as it will now tend to funnel road grime down you know where... Clear coat paint could do it over the exposed braid to wd40 off later. Not sure what to nicely seal the cover gap though.

DOT legal? Seriously?

I'm trying to find something like the tank rubber mounts. Graingers has bonded silicone washers. Should be softer than rubber.

Time to sort out the turnsignals. Not required on a 72 but I want to have at least something that lets those cagers know I'm moving over as most of them are too stupid or young or both to know what hand signals are. But of course I don't want turn signals that stick out too much.

I had picked these out a while ago. Tiny little LEDs. The white bit is a plastic spacer to get them to stick out a wee bit further.

They are very understated and I bet most people won't even spot them on the bike until they flash. Which is just what I wanted. I had prewired the turnsignals and they even worked, well, sorta…

I had hoped that by using an electronic flasher it would be able to cope with the extremely low voltages from the LEDs. Apparently not. Looks like I'll need some sort of resistors. Now to figure out how much.

All naked and getting worked on.

I put the parts back on and took the bike for a spin just to see what it would be like all hunched over. Yes, my back and wrists hurt. And that was just around the neighborhood. I stopped by Tom's (American Norton director) house to show off the bike and talk about the movie. There are still many more interviews slated.

You can see from these shots just how inconspicuous the turn signals are. Now to sort out the front ones. Then figure out how to make them flash, well, flash more.

Oh, and I need some mirrors. It's very difficult to turn your head when leaned forward. And because at least one is required in Oregon… Of course if I'm even pulled over on this bike I'm sure the cops will just chuckle that some knucklehead would even consider riding something like this on the street. :D

The video are full 1080p HD so if you want to really see them go over to YouTube and watch them. The quality of the video from the new iPhone is insane.

If they ask you how fast you were going , Point to the TACHO & say " That was pointing to 3 or 4 etc "

Looks lean [weak mixture] going off the header colour :?: or timing

Many people are unaware of the need to richen mixture slightly when ethanol bearing fuels are being used! Strangely enough the people making Amal carbs also seem to have no knowledge of this, as the jetting/set ups suggested today are exactly the same as those recommended when leaded 5 star fuels were in common usage! Maybe getting the jetting properly sorted for Amal carbs being used with modern fuels, would mean noticeably better performance?

Lovely bike. Must get mine finished & Knock it out. :D :D :D I have a full blown clip on & rearset job for the road & the proddie project is just sitting there as I am not motivated to do it!!! Your postings have got me looking at it again. First class job.

As an aside, I looked at the tiny handlebar end mirrors. I found when I was on the tank I could not see the end of the clip ons!!!
One of my old mates sadly no longer with us. Set me up with a little mirror of the fork spindle, I found I could see it over my knee!!!

all the best Chris

Hi, welcome to 15 months ago. You know once they turn blue they don't change back.

I think it helps to get the mirrors that have a slight riser not just the one that hang off the end. D

Of course some us can run non-ethanol.

Yes, well done Dave.

Back at you.

For the front turn signals I'm going to try some more LEDs. These are 24 LEDs in a strip, all sealed and weatherproof.

The plan is to mount one on each side of the headlight for the front turn signals. At least that's the theory.

There were no specs as to if I need to add a resistor to the circuit. With 24 LEDs and since they are sold as for a 12v system, should I assume that I should just be able to plug them in?

My guess is no.
