Anyone saw this in the last Classic Bike. I have still to buy the mag but from what I rapidly saw it was cute ?!

I've seen a photo of that bike (I wouldn't think there are two of them) on the internet over the last yeare some time.

Not my cup of ginseng tea...

Featherbed Vtwin Yamaha

I saw this on the Isle of Man in 2007 during the Manx GP.

Hello unclviny

What is it you have issue with,is it any non standard bike.Triton,Tribsa,Trifield,Tricati ect ?
I have a wonderful bike, Its a Norbsa a BSA Gold Star engine in a featherbed frame. See forum "show your other bikes".
Or perhaps the V twin engine grates upon your sensibility's, Over here in the UK at least one commpany puts Harley Davidson engines in replica Featherbed frames.(nice too)And then we have the Norvin.enough said.
We all have our likes and dislikes and I must say this bike is not for me but I can see why he did it and speaking to the owner he said it went well and it does sound nice and reliability would be good.
So my question is, Why not?

Specials are wonderful, I was just drooling over your bike in the other thread.

I'm not a fan of v-twins anyway and a Yammer v-twin is (in my opinion) an abomination!

I'm sure that folks look at some of the things I do any say NO!, this bike just seems especially "wrong" to me.

Vince

Note that the Hedlund DID NOT chop the frame...

(that's a plus, if you ask me)

Personally, I would never put a Jap motor in a featherbed, but I can understand why people do it. That Yamaha is probably the closest most of us can get to a Norvin these days, well either that or the Harley engined ones that are built by both Dresda and JW Motorcycles.
Like most specials, they only have to please the builder and owner, I wouldn't build one, but I can appreciate the work and engineering that goe's into building something like that.

Agree totally

Double ditto. Design and execution trumps aesthetics almost every time. The featherbed is so accommodating to motor transplants that it's a tradition in itself. Personally, Vince forgive me, I think a hopped up Suzuki triple would be the cat's pajamas in a featherbed. :D At least Barry Sheen would have liked it.

I know this will seem to be somthing of a reversal but in a grudging way I agree with vince.
However as its not my bum on the seat who am I to pee on his (the builder's) fireworks?
I am not a lover of Harley motorcycles but they at least have an afinity with the engineering methodology.

Suzuki triple, two stroke. Now that is really silly!.

Regards Bobby.

I once had a T150 race bike with a modified slimline frame. Sold it because it had a chrome frame and no side or centre stand and I got fed up finding places to lean it against. What an Idiot I am I should have kept it!

Pure joy on the move.

Yes silly....a perfect smooth engine turned into a shaker....did I mention I do not really like the Featherbed?
Philippe
Philippe, I can see why you might not care for the Featherbed, but what's not to like about the Suzuki motor?

What 3 cylinder Suzuki motor are we talking about?
If you were after a mad 3cyl stinkwheel why not go the whole hog and get a Kwak?

The Suzuki actually has some advantages over the Kawasaki. Aircooled two strokes loose power when they get hot, and they are noisy. The '75 makes 70hp stock. The problem is that the bike is overweight in the extreme. So...

....and had some nasty handling traits. My '74 was scary.
Engine, running pod filters, sounded awesome in an insane two-stroke way and had massive pull at wfo. Featherbed wouldn't be my first choice for that engine. Something along the lines of stuffing it into an RZ 350-500 or Gama frame if it could be shoe-horned in would be pretty cool though.
