I am looking for mirrors right now. I have a red norton commando, and only have a small round under the bar mirror which I think kind of sucks. Just wondering what mirrors you really like?

I got one of the skyking bar-end mirrors from cnw. Is built well, and has a lot more visibility than u would think from looking at it's size. I am not an aggressive driver though.

If I was a lane splitter or weaving in and out of traffic I would go with above bar mirrors- easier to keep your eyes focused on the road

I have the stock 10" stem w/ the 4" dia. lollipop round lens that came orig. on my bike.
In 1972 there were no mirrors made specifically for the commando.
Look at any early adds and no mirrors on the model bikes.
My mirror was probably an after market mirror the dealer stocked for the purpose of fitting a left mirror as required by law in the 70's.
I've collected a couple old road test articles and this mirror is seen on all the tested bikes in 750cc .
I had a bar end mirror in the early 80's when I had low bars on a 73 Bonneville. The mirror came loose at the least
desireable time and it really was more cool effect then useable. It vibrated so much looking into it at extended periods
of time gave you a headache.
Under bar mirrors again cool effect from easy rider days.
Above the bar that extends beyond the riders shoulders are safe and effective.
My stem screws into the clutch perch and then has a friction nut that cinches down against the perch housing for security.
It has not come loose and I actually can see behind me

I mounted dual CRG bar-end mirrors on my Mk3 when I rebuilt it, mostly for looks. They look great and work very well in giving the rider a panoramic view to the rear. HOWEVER, I found them dangerous to use exclusively from an upright riding position, as they require a significant head-dip to use. I kept them on, but installed an OEM-type trapazoidal lollipop mirror (from Old Britts) on the left side. With the large end of the trapazoid outbound, the mirror is perfect for merging into traffic from the right, and its position requires no head movement. I really feel secure with the lollipop in place, and will do the same thing on the right side as well.

I am using the Napolean bar End unit from OldBritts. They mount with a rubber compression within the bar, unlike the rigid units you see by the thousands on ebay. Can be twisted and turn in any manner you desire. Ample visual surface. Well dampened within the bar making them very stable for a bar end configuration.

I have just put some on my 850, the same ones as on the Norton Poster with the beautiful Vivien Neves sat on it.
Had a good look at after market mirrors & decided these were the best looking for a Commando. They are okay, don't have to look around any more.
I would never have bar end mirrors, I would smash them pretty quickly, not used to that sort of thing.

This one?

Course 'tis.
'anging on me wall in the front room.
Bike looks good as well.

It looks as if the left-hand mirror on the advert is looking down at Vivien Neve's pelvic area as well. :)

Flo, are your mirrors original or the slightly more tapered type that are currently available ? I somersaulted my last OE across the roof of a Peugeot and haven't been able to find any quite right since.

30 plus years, I never noticed the mirrors...............

Never noticed till you said that, they are tapered. Must admit, prefered the looks of the bike before I put mirrors & winkers on. Prefer riding it with them though.

I have exactly the same problem. Took them straight off years ago but they've gradually found their way back on. I do at least have short stalks on the indicators.

I'll photograph the broken original mirror alongside the current pattern for comparison purposes (not tonight though).

I can't believe that Michael B hadn't noticed the mirrors. Must be a big hair fetishist :)

I fitted replicas of the original 850 mirrors. Spent the extra bucks on Stainless Steel version. Crap. Both stems fatigued and broke off at the bar mountings. Fortunately the mirror heads where OK. I made my own stems out of mild steel and plated them.

I've used these Harley-Davidson mirrors for almost 38 years. (On only my second set now.)

Perfect form, fit and function -- and you can still walk into any HD shop and get them --- (with some very complimentary remarks from the old guys in the parts department when you tell them what they're for....)

Yeah first time I saw an add w/ mirrors.
Older adds they left them off.
Also model moved from ground to seat.
Is this the beginning of woman's Lib?

You betcha! Now we ride our own Nortons. We maintain them ourselves too. No need for a man anymore :!:

Still haven't found a mirror I like though...
